Eligibility

The IEA Internship Programme is open to students who:

  • Are enrolled in a full-time degree programme for the duration of the internship in a field or discipline related to the work of the IEA
  • Have an excellent command of English and/or French
  • Demonstrate excellent drafting and communication skills
  • Possess solid quantitative and IT skills
  • Are team players, capable of working in a multicultural and international team environment
  • Are available for a minimum internship duration of one month. Standard duration is 6 months
  • Want to make a difference!

Benefits

Monthly living allowance

  • A contribution to living expenses of around 1 000 euros per full month worked will be granted to interns.
  • Entitlement to 2.5 days of leave per month when the total duration of the internship is longer than two months, plus public holidays.

Areas of work

Policy

During your internship you will:

  • Collect, organise and evaluate relevant information.
  • Review and summarise policy documents, reports, meetings and other material to inform decisions.
  • Help draft policy-relevant analysis. Contribute to the production of briefing notes.
  • Contribute to the structured and careful management of knowledge, analysis, and data on policy areas and/or country/regions.
  • Assist in the preparation and coordination of events (committee meetings, conferences, workshops, etc.).

What IEA look for:

  • You are interested in making a difference in the energy field and have strong research and drafting skills, knowledge of energy-policy topics and/or country-regions.

Data collection, modelling and quantitative analysis

During your internship you will:

  • Compile data and undertake quantitative analyses.
  • Conduct research on market trends and techno-economic information on new and existing technologies, as well as policy and country strategies in the energy field.
  • Contribute to development of large scale techno-economic models covering different areas of the energy sector, and analyse results.
  • Generate insights on different possible areas: energy security, clean energy innovation (hydrogen, CCUS, biofuels), end-use decarbonisation (industry, transport , buildings), critical minerals, electricity systems, people-centred energy transitions, etc.
  • Contribute to IEA publications and participate in IEA events.

What IEA look for:

  • You are interested in making a difference in the energy field and have demonstrated strong skills on quantitative analytical skills, managing large datasets and/or undertaking modelling analysis. Experience in Python, TIMES or Vensim is an interesting asset!

Communications, media, human resources, buildings and events management

During your internship responsibilities may include:

  • Support the Communications team – Help create interactive content, including video and animation, for the IEA website and social media. Develop graphics, infographics, charts and maps for use across digital and print. Provide communications support for digital product launches/roll outs.
  • HR – Support recruitment activities and administration and talent attraction and outreach events. Prepare HR reports.
  • Events and Buildings team – Help delivering high-level events, being involved in some parts of the event project, including all related logistics and audio-visual support.

What IEA look for:

  • You are interested in making a difference in the energy field and have excellent communication and organisational skills, and knowledge in relevant corporate area (Communications, HR, IT, Finance, Events) acquired during your studies.

Selection process

The selection process consists of 4 main stages:

  1. Your online application and Message to Hiring Manager
  2. Pre-screening: all applications are screened and suitable candidates placed on a shortlist
  3. Interview and/or Written Test: hiring teams may invite candidates to complete a telephone interview and/or written test
  4. Offer letter: if you are selected following a telephone interview and/or written test you will receive an e-mail with your internship offer letter
