The United Network of Young Peacebuilders is looking for a Gender and Protection Coordinator with responsibility for developing and implementing UNOY’s gender and protection strategies, starting on 6 January 2025. This is a position on 0.8 FTE, based in The Hague. Working from the office is required for
at least 50% of the working week.
About the Organisation
UNOY Peacebuilders is a youth-led network of more than 120 youth led organisations from around 70 countries in the world, working towards peaceful societies shaped by young people. UNOY International Secretariat is located in The Hague, the city of peace and justice. The secretariat is run by a young and dedicated international team of 10 staff, 4 interns, and 6 remotely based regional coordinators. The leadership of the network is shared between two Co-Directors.
Nine years after the adoption of the first UN Security Council Resolution (2250) recognising the importance and role of youth in peacebuilding, UNOY has paved the way for critical developments in the Youth, Peace, and Security field. In 2021 UNOY entered into a new strategic period, with a focus on five change objectives. Its goal is to continue shaping the global agenda for Youth, Peace and Security, by supporting youth-led creative approaches to peace, prioritising the protection of the civic space of
young peacebuilders and resourcing young peacebuilders with knowledge, skills, attitudes and funds.
The Position
In this role, you will develop and implement gender and protection strategies and lead the implementation of activities within the gender and protection portfolio. The Gender and Protection Coordinator will be supervised by Co-Director (programmes), and will work closely with the whole Hague based team as well as its regional colleagues
UNOY welcome applications from young people of all backgrounds, genders, sexual orientations, nationalities, religions and beliefs. The position includes travel as needed within Europe as well as other continents.
You will work on the following areas:
Gender – planning, oversight & implementation
● Develop gender strategy and coordinate its implementation;
● Plan and execute gender activities;
● Coordinate the implementation of gender programme within the network.
Protection – planning, oversight & implementation
● Develop protection strategy and coordinate its implementation;
● Plan and execute protection activities;
● Coordinate the implementation of protection programme within the network.
Project management
● Create implementation plans for gender and protection projects including budgets;
● Ensuring administrative and reporting requirements for gender and protection projects are fulfilled.
Partnership building and communications
● Develop and maintain partnerships with relevant actors working on gender and protection;
● Engage in relevant multi-stakeholder platforms and coalitions around gender and protection.
Advocacy/ representation
● Ensuring visibility of UNOY Peacebuilders by participating in relevant fora including conferences, governing bodies and online discussions;

MEL
● Lead MEL for gender and protection with support of MEL Coordinator;
● Fill out learning overview, identify outcomes for gender and protection;
● Analyse Annual Impact Review data on gender and protection.
Qualifications required
● A relevant university degree at Bachelor’s level (gender studies, peace and conflict studies, international relations, development studies, or equivalent);
● At least least 2 years of demonstrated experience (paid or voluntary) working on gender and protection issues;
● Commitment to addressing violence of exclusion and decolonising peacebuilding;
● Excellent written and spoken English language skills;
You’re perfect if you also have:
● Intercultural facilitation skills;
● Experience in collaboration with local (youth) civil society organisations in the peace and security, human rights or closely related fields;
● Familiarity with Youth, peace and security agenda
● Excitement and experience with public engagements;
● Additional language skills are an asset (French, Spanish, Arabic, preferred).
