Are you a motivated student or recent graduate passionate about digital communications and advocacy in peace and security?
United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) is looking for a Public Information – Digital Communications Intern to support its efforts in:
- Social media & web content creation
- Advocacy on mission activities & international days
- Visual design
- Event coverage
- Gender & Women, Peace and Security research
Duties and Responsibilities
• Research content and draft messages for social media channels for advocacy, mission activities and international days; • Assist in developing digital visual products for web and social media platforms; create simple visual assets (quote cards, GIFs, videos, etc.). • Proactively contribute suggestions and ideas that will add value to UNOAU’s digital communications, including for the creation of major events and campaigns. • Support live coverage of events and develop content on UNOAU Website; • Assist in the daily monitoring of social media accounts; • Assist with UNOAU internal communications Gender Women peace and Security • Assist in undertaking research and analysis on Gender, Women Peace and Security trends in the region. • Assist in compiling data and information on the impact of conflict on women and girls, with specific reference to conflict affected countries in the region. • Participate in the Gender and WPS events organized by UNOAU • Perform any other duties as requested by the supervisor
Qualifications/special skills
Education To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
- Applicants at the time of application must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent)
- The field of study must be closely related to the type of internship you are applying for, that is, communications, media studies, journalism etc. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. If you meet any of the above criteria then apply.
Languages
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of French is strongly desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
