The Youth Climate Justice Fund (YCJF) is seeking a talented and passionate Community Associate to join its team. You will play a key role in supporting YCJF grantee partners with youth-to-youth capacity development and support to achieve their goals. 

This is a great opportunity for someone willing to learn, with a keen interest in building a career in community-building and capacity development in the civil society sector, and who is committed to advocate for climate justice globally.

Background

The Youth Climate Justice Fund (YCJF) supports youth climate justice movements with trust-based funding, resources and youth-to-youth capacity development. The YCJF was publicly launched during New York Climate Week 2023. In September 2023, YCJF also launched its first grantmaking call, receiving more than 1,800 applications from all over the world. In July 2024, YCJF closed its second open call with over 2,500 applications. So far YCJF committed funding to 90+ groups in about 45+ countries. 

Location

Remote, preferably in the Global South. 

Compensation

$155 per day – full time (35 hrs/week) + benefits. 

Duties and Responsibilities

As the Community Associate, you will play a crucial role in supporting the grantees of the YCJF. Working closely with the Community Manager, you will be responsible for supporting grantees with capacity development, supporting the identification and connection of opportunities for grantee partner requests in the broader ecosystem and administrative support for the community portfolio. 

Youth-to-youth Capacity Development

  • Conduct 1:1 calls with grantee partners to provide support on goal setting, insights on reporting requirements, check-ins on project updates, and general capacity development support;
  • Meet with grantee partners to support them in creating their own indicator towards which they will measure their progress;
  • Track requests for capacity development support from grantee partners and match them with appropriate supports to tailor to their capacity development needs;
  • Provide strong administrative support for the Community portfolio including managing trackers, grantee requests, and tasks for Community Manager;
  • Support Community Manager to develop and improve the YCJF Capacity Development Framework;
  • Support Community Manager with planning and implementation of Capacity Development sessions for in-person convenings for grantees;
  • Support the work of the YCJF in developing learnings about our work in general and how we are trying to reinvent the way philanthropy operates; 

Grantmaking

  • Work with the Community Manager and grantmaking team to identify which groups need the most support; 
  • Keep track of Community responsibilities within the grantmaking process.  

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning

  • Support the incoming Learning Manager to proactively identify and learn from the YCJF grantee partners’ impact; 
  • Support grantees with their reporting requirements for a mid-term check-in and an end of term report. 
     

Your Profile

Experience 

  • Proven experience in community work and capacity building in youth spaces.
  • Experience in communication and facilitating both virtual and in-person meetings/events. 
  • Possesses agility, quick thinking, and a profound sense of care and compassion when working with communities facing extraordinary organizing conditions.
  • Committed to advancing social justice movements, particularly within historically marginalized groups such as Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), women, queer individuals, and local communities.
  • Passionate about climate justice, committed to addressing the climate crisis by confronting systemic marginalization, exploitation, and oppression while promoting equity and justice. Experience in working with and in support of youth climate justice movements is a plus. 
  • Deeply committed in supporting youth movement leaders and organizations traditionally underserved by mainstream philanthropy.
  • Experience in working with and in support of youth climate justice movements is a plus.

  • Excellent English language skill (written and spoken).
     

Additional valued skills

  • Strong facilitation experience and skills 
  • Experience in speaking in one or more of the YCJF working languages (Spanish, Portuguese, Swahili, Arabic, Hindi, French) or any additional local or indigenous languages.
