Organisation Context

The East African Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Efficiency (EACREEE) was established at the 7th East African Community Sectoral Council on Energy meeting. The Centre was established to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency in the EAC region. EACREEE has been mandated by the EAC Council of Ministers responsible for energy to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency in the eight partner states, including the Republic of Burundi, the Republic of Rwanda, the Republic of South Sudan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, United Republic of Tanzania, Republic of Kenya, Federal Republic of Somalia and the Republic of Uganda.

Through its activities in policy support, capacity development, knowledge management, awareness raising, and business and investment promotion, EACREEE aims to create an enabling environment for RE & EE markets and investments by mitigating existing barriers and promoting a competitive sustainable energy market and economies of scale in the EAC region.

Job Summary

EACREEE is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Finance and Administration Intern to assist in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting general administrative tasks. The Finance and Administration intern will primarily focus on entering financial data into QuickBooks and performing other clerical duties to support the organization’s operational efficiency.

Scope of Duties

Finance Duties:

  • Accurately input financial transactions into QuickBooks, ensuring data integrity and consistency.
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of financial reports and records.
  • Verify receipts, invoices, and supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy before data entry.
  • Support bank reconciliations and other financial reconciliations as needed.
  • Help maintain an organized and up-to-date filing system for financial documents.

Administrative Duties:

  • Perform clerical tasks such as photocopying, scanning, filing, and organizing documents.
  • Assist with the scheduling of meetings and preparation of meeting materials.
  • Support inventory tracking and procurement processes.
  • Respond to routine inquiries and direct them to appropriate team members.
  • Provide general administrative support to the Finance and Administration department.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education:

Recently completed a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

Experience:

Previous experience or training in financial data entry or administrative work is an added advantage.

Attributes:

  • Clear understanding of accounting principles especially double entry.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
