Research Assistant in Health and Education Economics
Dr David Frayman at the London School of Economics, Centre for Economic Performance is looking to hire a Research Assistant to work on applied microeconomics projects using education, health and other administrative data.
The role offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in applied academic research. The successful candidate may contribute to projects examining the effects of diagnosing childhood mental disorders, the impact of targeted high needs education spending, and the influence of family and school peer environments on child and adolescent outcomes.
This is a long-term project, so the successful candidate will be committed to working until at least June 2027. The start date is flexible but must be no later than September 2026. Weekly hours can be agreed based on candidate availability and may be up to full-time equivalent. The position is open to current postgraduate students. Remuneration will start at a rate of £23.72 per hour, inclusive of holiday pay, although a higher rate can be considered for experienced candidates.
Essential criteria
Applicants should have:
- A strong quantitative background at undergraduate level, with evidence of high academic performance
- Excellent knowledge of R
- Experience working with large datasets
- The ability to work carefully and independently, including in a secure data environment where AI coding tools cannot be used
- An interest in health, education, wellbeing and childhood development
Desirable criteria
The following are desirable but not essential:
- Master’s study in a relevant quantitative discipline or relevant work experience in quantitative research. Applicants applying directly after undergraduate study will be considered where there is evidence of outstanding academic performance
- Experience working with administrative data
- Knowledge of the UK education and/or health context
