The American University in Cairo is Recruiting for a Junior Researcher for the HorizonEurope project ‘Global Strategy for Skills’
Closing Date: 17 August 2024
Background and Context
Global Strategy for Skills, Migration, and Development, also known as GS4S, is a 36-month Horizon Europe-funded project aimed at co-creating a global strategy to address skills shortages in the Digital, Care and Construction sectors as well as offer recommendations for alternatives to migration. GS4S aims to address skills shortages in the selected sectors by building on existing and developing new knowledge on qualifications and workforce availability globally. By assessing a variety of skills partnerships, GS4S’s consortium provides innovative analyses that go beyond migration governance and lie at the intersection of MEDT policy fields (i.e., migration, education, development & trade) for the EU, EUMS and non-EU countries. Such analyses will foster a multi-level policy field of skilling, migration and development and a
pathway to a global strategy for skills and a sustainable future of work.
GS4S also aims to develop new knowledge exploring labour migration and alternative ways to fill labour shortages from a business perspective at macro, meso and micro levels, to engage people already present in the EU with a global strategy of (up)skilling workforce in and/or partner-shoring work to selected non-EU countries (Egypt, Nigeria, and Bangladesh). GS4S is to develop new knowledge on (1) Gov2Gov mobility schemes and partnerships policies, (2) self-initiated mobilities typically geared towards skills development, and (3) the historical evolution of recognition of qualifications in the targeted areas, to design practical tools for policy makers, businesses, educational institutions and skilled workers in EU/non-EU countries and regions to better meet labour market needs through skilling and upskilling, mobility, and other alternative policy responses, offering a set of actions that can inform a global strategy for skills.
