Save the Children is seeking a Climate Finance New Business Development Advisor to join its team, home-based, ideally in the African time zone, as part of the Climate Change Division (CCD) with Save the Children Australia. Role Overview
Reporting to the Principal Advisor, Climate Change and Education, the Climate Finance New Business Development Advisor will coordinate the implementation of the “Accessing Climate Finance” component of CSESI. Working alongside GPE, UNESCO, UNESCO-IIEP, and Save the Children country offices, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering climate and education policy, planning, financing, coordination, and data management.
The Climate-Smart Education Systems Initiative (CSESI), funded by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) through its Strategic Capability Initiative, and implemented by UNESCO, UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP), and Save the Children, CSESI is a USD 20 million initiative that provides technical support to 35 countries to reinforce Ministry of Education actions in mainstreaming climate change into the education sector. Through this Strategic Capability Initiative, GPE seeks to enhance countries’ capacities to mainstream climate change adaptation and environmental sustainability into education sector plans, budgets and strategies as well as to enhance education ministry capacity for cross-sectoral coordination on climate and environment-related policy, programming and financing.
You will make an impact by:
- Overseeing the delivery of CSESI climate finance workplan components across multiple countries
- Identifying and cultivating business relationships with diverse donors and partners in climate finance
- Supporting Ministries of Education in developing pathways to access climate finance and developing strategies for long term climate resilience
- Tracking funding opportunities, leading donor engagements, and supporting concept note and proposal development
- Ensuring effective knowledge exchange, capacity building, and quality assurance of climate finance activities

This role requires:
- 5+ years of experience in business development in international development, with a track record in climate finance mechanisms (e.g., the Adaptation Fund, the Global Environment Facility and / or the Green Climate Fund)
- Expertise and experience in developing large-scale evidence-based proposals
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills with diverse stakeholders
- Proven coordination and leadership in multi-country initiatives and / or projects
- Exceptional writing, communication, and presentation abilities
