LEEP is hiring a fully remote within UTC-5 to UTC+3 time zones Senior Campaigns Consultant: Apply Now!
Lead Exposure Elimination Project (LEEP) is seeking an experienced campaigns strategist with deep LMIC experience to build its team’s capacity to effectively use campaigning techniques – including media and other strategic approaches – to accelerate policy change and drive industry reformulation across our global programs.
About LEEP
LEEP is an impact-driven, evidence-based nonprofit that aims to eliminate childhood lead poisoning, which affects an estimated one in three children worldwide. LEEP work involves generating data, supporting governments with the introduction and enforcement of regulation, and assisting industry in eliminating lead from their products. LEEP has historically primarily focused on one important source of exposure: lead paint. But they are now expanding to other sources of lead exposure, specifically spices and cosmetics.
About the Role
LEEP is seeking a pragmatic campaigns strategist with deep LMIC experience to help accelerate its policy and industry impact. The Senior Campaigns Consultant will assess where campaigns can most effectively drive change, build LEEP team’s capacity to deploy strategic campaigning tactics, and support pilot initiatives to test what works.
LEEP’s programs team has built strong capabilities in technical policy advocacy and industry engagement – building relationships with governments and manufacturers, providing evidence through paint studies, and supporting both regulatory development and manufacturer reformulation.LEEP sees an opportunity to enhance both policy and industry change by deploying campaigning tactics in ways that are fast, cost-effective, and context-appropriate.
LEEP is looking for expertise to help use a range of campaigning approaches – traditional media, social media, parliamentary engagement, coalition building, market pressure campaigns, public mobilisation, and others – more strategically and effectively. This includes knowing how to leverage public pressure without jeopardizing collaborative relationships with government and industry partners, and understanding which tactics are likely to deliver the greatest impact in different programme contexts.
The Senior Campaigns Consultant will work remotely with LEEP’s geographically distributed programs team (30+ people across five continents) and report to LEEP’s Policy Director. This fully remote role offers the opportunity to make a measurable difference in LMIC contexts by strategically shaping campaigns that accelerate our mission while strengthening the capabilities of a globally dispersed team.
Responsibilities
- Assess opportunities: Evaluate where campaigning techniques could accelerate policy change or manufacturer reformulation across LEEP’s programmes, identifying which approaches are likely to be most effective and cost-effective in different contexts
- Build team capacity: Develop and deliver training, practical guidance, and tools that enable programmes staff to deploy campaign tactics strategically
- Support pilot initiatives: Work with the team to design, implement, and learn from campaign pilots in select contexts, providing hands-on mentoring and real-time strategic guidance
- Navigate trade-offs: Help the team balance public pressure tactics with collaborative relationships with governments and industry, and assess when campaigns add value versus when other approaches are more appropriate
- Leverage external expertise: Where valuable, identify and support engagement with external specialists such as local PR firms or media consultants
- Capture and share learnings: Document what works and what doesn’t, refining guidance and recommendations based on practical experience
What LEEP is Looking for
A successful applicant will possess the following:
Essential
- Deep LMIC experience: Substantial experience designing and implementing campaigns in low- and middle-income countries, with a clear understanding of how campaigning dynamics differ in these contexts
- Track record of impact: Demonstrated success running campaigns that achieved concrete policy wins or drove corporate/industry behaviour change in LMICs, focusing on actual outcomes, not just activities
- Strategic judgement: Ability to assess when campaigns are worth the investment vs. when quiet diplomacy is more effective, and to navigate when public pressure helps vs. harms
- Outcomes focus: A strong, sustained commitment to achieving policy change and industry behaviour change quickly and cost-effectively
Highly Desirable
- Proven capacity to build others’ skills through training, mentoring, and clear written guidance
- Experience with “inside/outside” strategy – balancing collaborative relationships with targeted pressure
- Track record working on environmental health, public health, or consumer protection issues in LMICs
- Familiarity with both traditional media and digital/social media campaigns in LMIC contexts
- Experience working with remote, geographically distributed teams
- Comfort with ambiguity and fast-moving, entrepreneurial organisations
Benefits of Working with LEEP
- A chance to have a large positive impact on the world, and improve millions of lives
- Experience working with an early-stage, fast growing, high-impact and evidence-based non-profit
