The African Youth Advisory Board on Disaster Risk Reduction (AYAB-DRR) – African Union proudly launches the AI for All Hackathon: Building Inclusive Solutions for Early Warning and Disaster Resilience.
This regional programme brings together young leaders from across North Africa to design innovative AI-enabled solutions addressing real community challenges.
AI for All Hackathon: Building Inclusive Solutions Early Warning & Disaster Resilience
Organized by African Youth Advisory Board on Disaster Risk Reduction (AYAB-DRR) – African Union In collaboration with partners including ALF, Periperi U, the European Union, and other regional and international stakeholders, the programme aims to empower young innovators across North Africa to co-create AI-enabled solutions that strengthen disaster resilience, early warning systems, climate adaptation, and sustainable development. The programme consists of:
Phase I – Virtual Boot Camp
- Responsible & Inclusive AI
- Artificial Intelligence Fundamentals
- Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)
- Early Warning Systems
- Earth Observation & Geospatial Technologies
- Robotics & Prototype Development
- UI/UX Design & Application Development
- Design Thinking & Innovation
- Web Development & Networking
Phase II – Local Innovation Labs
Participants work in multidisciplinary teams with mentors and facilitators to develop innovative solutions.
Phase III – Regional Hackathon & Demo Days
Selected teams present their solutions before experts, policymakers, development partners, investors, and industry leaders.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be between 18 and 35 years old
- Be a citizen or resident of a North African country
- Be available to participate throughout all programme phases
- Have an interest in Artificial Intelligence, innovation, disaster resilience, climate action, entrepreneurship, or technology
AYAB-DRR strongly encourage applications from women, youth from rural and underserved communities, universities, startups, innovation hubs, Scout and Rover Groups, youth organizations, and civil society organizations.
