Intern in Development Partnerships Area of Activity

The “Cooperation with the Private Sector” group is the contact point for the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) regarding cooperation between German development cooperation (DC) and the private sector, and it also serves as the customer portal for companies. Within this group, your area of responsibility lies in the develoPPP program. Through the develoPPP funding program, GIZ has been cooperating in developing and emerging countries since 1999 with private companies that are industry leaders or innovation drivers in their respective fields, within the framework of so-called Development Partnerships with the Private Sector (DPP).

The goal of the develoPPP program is to pool the resources, knowledge, and capital of public and private partners in such a way as to generate both successes for the companies and development policy benefits for the local population. The potential topics are extremely diverse. Some examples include: advancing socio-ecological change and the climate and energy transition through skills training and technology transfer; increasing good employment; making supply chains more sustainable; improving environmental and social standards; and promoting women and minorities.

Furthermore, the team advises colleagues from GIZ’s bilateral programs in Germany and abroad on the topic of cooperation with the private sector. The develoPPP program is implemented by several regional teams.

Your tasks

During your GIZ internship, you will support individual project managers in the develoPPP Africa or Africa4Jobs team in the selection, preparation, coordination and implementation of development partnerships with the private sector, as well as in carrying out cross-functional tasks. The Intern in Development Partnerships will:

They provide support in the substantive development of project proposals in cooperation with internal and external experts and partners.
They support the project managers in the implementation and coordination of ongoing projects.
They undertake research activities on projects and participate in the processing of results and experiences for the entire GIZ.
They support strategic processes within the team.
They support us in our varied daily business.

Your profile

From the 3rd semester onwards, they study in the fields of economics, social sciences, law, regional studies or engineering.
Knowledge of business engagement in developing and emerging countries and/or experience in the private sector (e.g., through an internship) is desirable.
You have very good German and English skills, both spoken and written; knowledge of other languages (especially French) (from B1 level) is an advantage.
They are interested in conceptual issues and are able to deal with the various internal and external stakeholders in everyday project work in a service-oriented and communicative manner.
You can proactively and transparently coordinate your tasks with the employees in your team.
Furthermore, you have solid knowledge of Microsoft Office.
In a work environment with diverse tasks, you maintain an overview and can organize your daily work independently and efficiently.

The GIZ internship is only possible if you are currently enrolled at a university, are participating in a further education program that includes an internship as an integral part of your studies, or if your degree was awarded no more than 6 months prior to the start of the internship.

The monthly intern salary is €2,349 (gross).
