Overview
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade invites applications for the position of Education Officer to support Irish Aid’s work on global citizenship and development education.
The post is open, on a secondment basis, to serving primary, post-primary and further education teachers/trainers as well as adult education officers, youth workers and Youth Reach co-ordinators working in further education colleges and adult and community education settings. The ideal candidate will have responsibility for supporting global citizenship education policy including promotion of global citizenship education in the formal and non-formal education sectors.
It is intended that a panel of suitably qualified candidates will be established from which Irish Aid can draw over a two year period. At least one appointment from this panel will be made in September 2025 for the 2025/2026 school year and this placement/these placements will be in Irish Aid’s Global Programmes Unit in Limerick or Dublin.
Requirements for the post
- A recognised primary, post-primary or further education teaching/training qualification and/or relevant qualification in youth work and/or adult and community education (Level 8 qualification required).
- 8 years teaching or other relevant experience.
- Good knowledge and experience of the Irish education system, formal and/or informal.
- Knowledge and experience of global citizenship and development education or other relevant area (e.g. anti-racism education, education for sustainable development, human rights education, inter-cultural education etc.)
- Satisfactory reference from employers.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Additional training or qualifications in development education, global citizenship education, anti-
- racism education, inter-cultural education, education for sustainable development, human rights education or other relevant education would be desirable.
- Knowledge and experience of project management is also desirable.
Candidates will be shortlisted against these requirements. It is envisaged that one round of interviews will be held in April 2025 to establish a panel from which Irish Aid will draw.
