Overview
GHRD is hiring Volunteer Research Interns with the possibility to work remotely and with flexible hours. The Part-time Volunteer Research Interns will be part of the International Justice and International
Law Team.
Renumeration: Volunteer Internship (Any travel related to the internship, i.e., fieldwork or attending conferences, will be compensated; Networking and Training opportunities will be provided for the development of the interns).
About the Internship
Global Human Rights Defence is looking for volunteer part-time interns to join the team of International Justice and International Law researchers whose work is focused on a wide range of long-standing issues related to human rights and international judicial mechanisms. GHRD focuses on addressing critical human rights issues globally, advocating for justice, and holding international violators accountable. As a volunteer part-time intern, you will contribute to the monitoring, researching, and advocacy efforts necessary to advance and protect human rights worldwide. Therefore, each month you will be responsible for monitoring and reporting on human rights violations and developments that have occurred.
The aim is to raise awareness and draw attention to universal, as well as national and regional issues, while analysing, researching and addressing violations on the basis of laws and conventions. With the International Justice and International Law team, issues that will be covered and tackled include, but are not limited to, the legal and moral framework that addresses serious violations of international law, particularly those that threaten peace, security, and human rights on a global scale, legislative developments within international institutions (ICC, ICJ…), human rights violations, transitional justice, refugee’s rights and statelessness, environmental justice, business related human rights violations or even children’s rights from an international law perspective.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting (legal) research on human rights and aforementioned rights areas;
- Write daily news, research articles, and reports;
- Monitoring global developments in international human rights and humanitarian law,
- Conducting interviews;
- Participating in the organisation of various projects such as workshops and conferences;
- Preparing posts to make our work more visible on our social media platforms.
Qualifications
- You have a degree, or are currently pursuing a degree with a good academic record in Law, Human Rights, International Relations, Political Science or a relevant field to this work;
- You are fluent in English. Knowledge of another language is an asset;
- You have excellent writing, researching and communication skills;
- You have a solid knowledge of international human rights law and a good understanding of International Justice, accountability mechanisms and human rights frameworks;
- You are flexible, creative and adaptable;
- You are driven and highly motivated;
- You are attending to details and diligent;
- Previous experience is not required but can be considered as an important asset
