Job Description

Sustainable finance has gained international recognition as a key enabler to shift financial flows toward investments aligned with the Paris Agreement, the SDGs and the Global Biodiversity Framework. GIZ supports partner countries in building credible policy and regulatory frameworks that ensure sustainability factors are considered in day-to-day decision making in the financial sector. The Sustainable Finance Intern will join the global project “Sustainable Economic Transformation and Sustainable Finance” at GIZ headquarters in Eschborn/Frankfurt and support the team on a broad spectrum of topics and activities. A core task will be contributing to the planning, preparation and implementation of sustainable finance measures in developing countries and emerging markets worldwide.

Tasks

As part of your internship at GIZ you will be assigned specific responsibilities that you will be able to carry out independently under the supervision of your line manager. This includes, for example, the following activities:

  • You will be part of the team and take an active part in regular team meetings and activities
  • You will support the planning, preparation and implementation of technical assistance measures in the field of sustainable finance
  • You will carry out research and prepare presentation materials and concept papers
  • You will support the team in coordinating activities or joint knowledge products with international partners
  • You will support the organization of events and workshops in partner countries
  • You will contribute to the project’s knowledge management, creating content for internal and external communication including social media, and support the monitoring and evaluation of the project’s impact

Your Profile

  •  You have completed at least an undergraduate degree in economics, finance, business administration or a related field
  • You bring some first experience and/or knowledge in finance, ideally in the field of sustainable finance regulation/policy, financial instruments, climate risk management etc., through previous jobs / internships or analytical work
  • You have gained initial experience in international development cooperation
  • You bring exceptional organizational skills, work independently and can familiarize yourself quickly and comprehensively with new topics
  • Last but not least, you enjoy working in a team, have good communication skills and show initiative
  • You have a very good command of written and spoken English. Fluency in German is not a requirement, but an advantage. Command of further languages (in particular Spanish, French, Portuguese) are also considered to be an advantage
