Overview

A better life for everyone and meaningful work for its employees – that’s GIZ model for success. For more than 50 years, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), a German Federal Government company, has been supporting the global implementation of development policy goals. Together with partner organizations in 120 countries, GIZ is involved in a wide variety of projects. If you want to make a difference in the world and develop yourself in the process, you’ve come to the right place.

Field of activity

The Development Cooperation Trainee Program is a BMZ (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) junior staff development program for German and multilateral development cooperation, which GIZ has been implementing on behalf of since 2007.

Within this program, young development cooperation experts and managers are trained in three stages. In Stage 1, development cooperation trainees are deployed for eight months in a GIZ project in a partner country. In Stage 2, development cooperation trainees spend time in an international cooperation organization that matches their individual profile. In Stage 3, development cooperation trainees are deployed for five months at the BMZ in Bonn or Berlin.

Responsibility for the development cooperation trainee program lies with the Development Cooperation Programs group, where it is coordinated and implemented by a small, agile team.
