Area of ​​activity

The “Construction in International Cooperation” group supports GIZ projects worldwide in the conceptualization, planning, and implementation of a wide variety of construction projects on behalf of German federal ministries and other donors. The scope of work is diverse, ranging from the development of technical and social infrastructure to technically sophisticated buildings. In its partner countries, GIZ provides comprehensive expertise in basic services such as water and energy supply, as well as the circular economy. Within the framework of a new project to electrify two secondary towns in southern Chad and a project to construct a new building complex for the German Embassy in the capital, N’Djamena, we are strengthening our commitment.

Your tasks

The Infrastructure and Energy Consultant will

  • Technical support and assistance for those responsible for implementation in the area of ​​municipal energy and water supply as well as general building construction and civil engineering.
  • Review of planning services, tender documents and cost estimates
  • Supporting the local and central contracts department in the awarding and commissioning of national and international experts and construction companies.
  • Consulting on the conception, implementation and commissioning of infrastructure measures for efficient and environmentally sound electricity and water supply in close coordination with specialists and managers of the participating stakeholders such as national and regional authorities, the regulatory authority and municipal administrative authorities in the intervention communities.
  • Consulting services for specialists, managers and operators of the facilities for the systemic operational management of energy and water supply systems (capacity development)
  • Support in reporting and the creation of documentation

Infrastructure and Energy Consultant profile

Required criteria:

  • A completed university degree, preferably in engineering (energy/water/civil engineering) or comparable training in a relevant discipline (e.g., focus on alternative energies, water supply, environmental management) is mandatory.
  • Initial expertise in the development and implementation of energy efficiency projects for electricity/water supply in a municipal setting, ideally in an international context or in partner countries of development cooperation, is expected.
  • Experience with EU funding and consulting services related to digitalization is advantageous.
  • Several years of international and work experience
  • Strong social and intercultural skills, high level of commitment, team spirit, reliability, diplomatic skills, gender sensitivity
  • Fluent German and French skills are required.

Desired criteria:

  • Prior knowledge of GIZ instruments, processes, rules and procedures is desirable.
  • Knowledge of environmental and social impact assessment (Environmental and Social Impact Assessment, Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance Standards).
  • Work experience in a fragile context
  • Good English skills are desirable.

The job is suitable for full-time or part-time employment. A willingness to travel regularly for business is required.
