GIZ is hiring for a Global Initiative for Disaster Risk Management Intern (monthly intern salary of €2,205.04): Apply Now

Overview

A better life for everyone and meaningful work for its employees – that’s GIZ model for success. For more than 50 years, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), a German Federal Government company, has been supporting the global implementation of development policy goals. Together with partner organizations in 120 countries, GIZ is involved in a wide variety of projects. If you want to make a difference in the world and develop yourself in the process, you’ve come to the right place.

Field of activity

Progress in areas such as health, nutrition, education, and climate protection is being undermined by existing and emerging risks. The risk of damage and economic loss from disasters is currently continuously increasing.

Decisions regarding development processes and investments can contribute to new risks if, for example, they lead to people settling in vulnerable areas, inadequately planning and managing infrastructure, or excessive strain on natural resources. This trend can be mitigated by incorporating climate and disaster risks into development decisions across various sectors. Risk-informed development requires new approaches to understanding and addressing systemic risks.

The Global Initiative for Disaster Risk Management (GIKRM) IV supports various partners in development cooperation, such as planning and finance ministries, line ministries, and regional organizations, in leveraging potential and synergies to secure long-term development success and promote risk-informed development. The global project is implementing measures in Bosnia & Herzegovina, Georgia, Colombia, Laos, Pakistan, and Southern Africa (SADC).
