GIZ is looking for a Communications Intern for the Technical Support Unit of the Mitigation Action Facility to support the Mitigation Action Facility turn impact into compelling stories – across web and social.
The Mitigation Action Facility supports ambitious climate mitigation projects in ODA-eligible countries – mobilising finance, accelerating decarbonisation, and sharing what works so it can scale. Your work will help bring these results to wider audiences.

Job description
The Mitigation Action Facility is a joint initiative of the German Federal Ministry for the Economic Affairs and Climate Action, UK’s Department for Energy Security & Net Zero, the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation. The Mitigation Action Facility catalyses investments, strengthens capacities and triggers behaviour change towards sectorial decarbonisation. GIZ implements the Mitigation Action Facility including the operation of the Technical Support Unit (TSU) as a secretariat.
The TSU implements Calls for Projects, coordinates and monitors the overall implementation of the programme and is responsible for monitoring, evaluation, reporting, knowledge management and communication of the Mitigation Action Facility. It is in close contact with the Donors of the Mitigation Action Facility, with implementers of projects and potential applicants.
Your tasks
During your GIZ internship, you will gain insight into the day-to-day work of the TSU, particularly in the area of strategic communication. You will support the team in strengthening the visibility and outreach of the Mitigation Action Facility and in communicating results, impacts, and lessons learnt from the funded projects.
Your tasks include:
- Support the strategic communication activities of the Mitigation Action Facility, including content planning, writing, and editing for website updates, newsletters, and social media posts
- Assist in the preparation of communication materials such as success stories, event summaries, talking points, and briefings for internal and external use
- Support the Mitigation Action Facility’s social media management.
- Support the TSU in maintaining consistent branding and messaging across all communication channels.
- Assist in the coordination of internal communication process within the TSU and with projects as well as with external service providers.
Your profile
Required criteria:
- Academic background: Communication science, PR, political science, environmental studies, development studies, international relations, or a related field (at least successfully completed Bachelor’s degree)
- Professional/academic experience in climate change mitigation, climate finance, development cooperation and/or international communication
- Excellent writing and editing skills in English
- Experience or strong interest in digital communication (e.g., website content management, social media)
- Proficient in handling the MS Office package; experience with design or content tools (e.g., Canva, WordPress, InDesign) is an advantage
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; attention to detail, and a proactive, team-oriented approach
- Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is required; French, Spanish or German is an asset
