Fully Funded to Egypt and Baku: Apply for COP29 Simulation Model organized by the British University and UNDP

About the program

The British University in Egypt and UNDP Egypt are proudly organising the third edition of the annual COP29 Simulation model, an annual youth-led climate conference that brings students from around the world to simulate the COP and engage with country delegates and representatives of international climate stakeholders.

Previous Simulations

The first two editions of the Simulation, COP27 Simulation and COP28 Simulation, were outstanding successes. Recognising their significant impact, they were held with the support of the COP27 Presidency, the Egyptian Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Youth and Sports, the British Embassy in Egypt, and the UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for Egypt.

Each year, the COPSimulation is held in partnership with a leading academic institution from the country hosting the COP Presidency. COP28 Simulation was held in partnership with Zayed University, UAE. This year, given that COP29 is being held in Baku, Azerbaijan in November 2024, The British University in Egypt and UNDP Egypt are excited to collaborate with ADA University in Azerbaijan in the implementation of the COP29 Simulation.

The COP29 Simulation planned activities and deliverables include:

  • A two-week online capacity-building programme offered by global academic institutions and organisations on climate literacy, youth-led climate action, diplomacy, debate, and conflict resolution.
  • Mentored policy papers on climate-related themes, guided by Egyptian and international mentors from relevant academic and professional backgrounds.
  • A COP Mock Conference on the campus of The British University in Egypt, where students simulate country delegates, chief negotiators, and non-state actors. They discuss and vote on their research-based resolutions. Selected students are funded for a (5-6) day stay in Egypt.
  • The COP Simulation declaration, where the youth-voted resolutions are presented in the published declaration, which is then presented at the actual COP.
  • COP participation: Around 35 students are selected to present the outcomes of the Mock Conference Declaration at the actual COP’s blue and green zones sessions. Selected students are funded for the trip to Baku.
