Overview
The United Nations Global Compact Office (UNGCO) is offering internship opportunities with its New York office. The UNGCO is the entity responsible for the overall management and coordination of the Global Compact initiative, including the management of the Global Compact’s name and logo, and the Global Compact Integrity Measures. Available 2025 internship opportunities include the following period:
- Fall internships: commencing September 2025
- Winter internships: commencing December 2025
Kindly indicate clearly in your application which period you intend to start your internship. Internships are offered for a minimum of three (3) months, with a possibility of extension up to six (6) months.
The United Nations Global Compact Office pursues two complementary objectives: (1) making the Global Compact and its principles part of business strategy and operations everywhere; and (2) facilitating cooperation among key stakeholders by promoting partnerships and other collective action in support of United Nations goals. To promote its 10 principles, the Global Compact also undertakes work on a range of corporate sustainability issues.
2025 Internship opportunities are available in the following teams. Please indicate clearly which team(s) you are interested conducting an internship with. You may select more than one team of interest.
-Global Operations – Programmes – Principles for Responsible Management Education – Communications and Media – Participant Outreach and Engagement – Marketing – Government Affairs – Strategic Events – Integrity – Partnerships and UN relations – Intergovernmental Relations and Africa.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of a Programme Officer of the United Nations Global Compact Office and depending on their level of experience and training, the UNGCO interns will carry out the following responsibilities:
- Conduct research relating to the topic of corporate sustainability.
- Draft and edit publications, papers and other documents.
- Liaise with Global Compact stakeholders on key corporate sustainability topics.
- Support the organization of meetings and events. – Assist with outreach activities.
- Handle emails and other inquiries.
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) Be enrolled, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,
(b) Be enrolled, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
Candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, including Excel. They should also have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and have demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Educational background or exposure to political science, history, international relations, cooperate sustainability, law, public administration or related fields is desirable.
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Have you completed an UN Internship before? Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required.
Additional Information
Visa and Work Authorization Mandatory Requirements: For internships in the United States of America, interns who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or on another non-immigrant (such as F1 or J1 visa) status, will be required to obtain a G4 visa.
