The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) has been operating since 2012 under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General. SDSN mobilizes global scientific and technological expertise to promote practical solutions for sustainable development, including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement. SDSN aim to accelerate joint learning and promote integrated approaches that address the interconnected economic, social, and environmental challenges confronting the world.
About SDSN Youth
SDSN Youth is one of the initiatives of SDSN. It was launched in 2015 with a mission to empower youth globally to create sustainable development solutions. Since then, SDSN Youth is committed to supporting the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data, focusing on outreach of youth communities for raising awareness, capacity building of youth for sustainable development, and advocacy and collaboration.
About the Membership Program
The Membership Program is a youth-led and youth-focused network of +500 member organizations based in more than 127 different countries that encourages engagement and collaboration on sustainability issues. It gives member organizations access to research, business development resources, and events, exposing them to a community of global experts, business leaders, and peers.

- By empowering youth-led and youth-focused organizations, the program accelerates solutions toward sustainable development goals.
- Through networking and collaboration, member organizations are able to connect with their peers at an international level and benefit from peer-to-peer learning.
- The program prioritizes education and resources to drive change towards a sustainable future through high-level business-oriented skills such as fundraising, project management, and leadership.
Role Description
The Membership Program Project Officer role will work closely with the team members of the Global Youth Networks (Project Lead and Project Officers), with possible collaboration with the Network Coordinators, to advance the capacity and operation of the Membership Program.
Please note: As a virtual network, it is important for the Project Officer to communicate effectively with their Project Lead and report back consistently. In, that operates across several time zones, reporting and communicating proactively is crucial.
Key Responsibilities
Membership Program Operations
- Collaborate with the GYN Team to develop and implement the Membership program strategy by understanding the needs and priorities of Member Organizations and use these insights to shape the Membership Program at both global and local levels.
- Identify Capacity Building trainings tailored to strengthen the capabilities of Member Organizations.
- Recommend best practices and management solutions to enhance operational efficiency within Member Organizations.
Selection of Member Organizations
- Assist GYN team in bi-annual selection process and work with the Selection Committee to review applications, assess organizational capacity, and identify potential synergies with the network’s strategic priorities.
- Maintain a comprehensive database of applicants and selected members to support ongoing engagement, monitoring, and reporting.
- Facilitate onboarding sessions and orientation materials for newly selected Member Organizations to help them integrate effectively into the network and maximize program benefits.
Community Engagement
- Manage and grow the SDSN Youth Membership Community through the LinkedIn group, virtual town halls, and meet-ups, ensuring regular updates, professional visibility, and active engagement with the global community.
- Maintain and strengthen communication connecting over Member Organizations worldwide, ensuring consistent updates and knowledge sharing across regions.
- Support the production of communication and learning materials aligned with the program’s objectives
Qualifications
The Project Officer (Membership Program) will be someone who has experience in program management, business strategy, and leadership. They will be responsive and possess organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills while working in a team to maximize SDSN Youth’s internal performance.
Minimum qualifications:
- Candidate has volunteer or work experience, managing teams, or in a role that requires stakeholder management.
- The candidate has excellent organizational, multitasking, and leadership skills.
- The candidate is a proven team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to coordinate and manage workload across several projects/teams.
- Candidate can demonstrate their ability to communicate effectively and report consistently. In a network, which operates across several time zones, reporting and communicating proactively is crucial.
- The candidate is aged between 18-30 in order to be eligible for this role (exceptions may apply).
- Possesses an excellent command of the English language, including writing, speaking and listening.
Preferred qualifications:
- Has previous experience working with large networks.
- Has an interest in sustainable development, and is passionate about the mission of the SDSN, including the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on climate change.
- Is able to demonstrate that they have the time and resources to commit to this role – candidates with too many overlapping commitments will be exempt from running for this position.
