Africa’s future in Artificial Intelligence depends on researchers who can solve African problems with world-class research.
Applications are now open for the AI-4AI Academic Research Fellowship, a six-month program designed to prepare aspiring African AI researchers for graduate study, academic publication, and impactful research careers.
If you’re passionate about AI research and ready to commit to mentorship, independent guide and producing tangible research outputs, this fellowship is for you.
OVERVIEW
The AI-4AI Research Fellowship is one of the many benefits available through the AI-4AI Membership Program. As such, membership is required for participation in the fellowship.
Please note that enrolling in the AI-4AI Membership Program does not guarantee selection into the Research Fellowship. Fellowship places are awarded through a competitive selection process based on the published eligibility criteria.
Applicants who become members but are not selected for the current cohort will be placed on a priority waiting list for future fellowship cohorts, subject to meeting the selection requirements. In the meantime, they will enjoy the full range of membership benefits throughout their membership period.

WHAT FELLOWS ACHIEVE
- Develop a clear roadmap for applying to MSc or PhD programmes in AI-related fields.

- Understand the graduate admissions process for universities in the US, Canada, UK, and Europe, including application strategy, statement of purpose development, and securing strong references.
