International Service for Human Rights (ISHR) is currently looking for communications volunteers to support its Communications & Campaigns teams. Interested?
About ISHR
ISHR is an independent, non-profit organisation with offices in Geneva and New York. Volunteers will enjoy a unique opportunity to view the United Nations human rights system at work and to contribute to ISHR mission: supporting human rights defenders, strengthening human rights systems, building and leading human rights coalitions, and responding to significant and systemic human rights concerns.
Volunteering at ISHR
Volunteers will contribute to ISHR work supporting people defending human rights in several
countries, advocating at the United Nations and strengthening coalitions. ISHR is currently looking for communications volunteers to help its Communications & Campaigns teams with video editing, translations and social media. The list of tasks below gives an overview of what one or more volunteers could work on, depending on their individual skills, experience and preference. Likewise, items listed under “Requirements” highlight the type of expertise and skills relevant to ISHR. ISHR do not expect to find all of them in one single volunteer, though.
Key tasks
- Posting on social media using Hootsuite.
- Video editing: statements, defender stories, short videos for social media, …
- Drafting content for social media
- Drafting content for Google ads
- Translation of content (eg campaign pages, social media plans, video subtitles …)
- Creation of social media visuals using Canva
Requirements
To be considered, applicants should have a strong interest in human rights, attention to detail
in addition to at least one or two of the following requirements:
- Strong writing and copy-editing skills
- Knowledge and some experience with social media
- At ease with at least some of the following tools: video editing software such as Premiere Pro, graphic design software Canva, social media management software Hootsuite, website content management system (ideally WordPress), generative AI tools
- Digital marketing skills like Google Ads, SEO, GA4, UTM tracking etc.
- Languages: Fluent in English, other languages (Spanish, French) a strong advantage.
Applicants should be available to work at least 2 hours and up to 6 hours per week on
average, ideally for a period of 6 months minimum.

Please note that this is a pro-bono opportunity and that work performed for ISHR in the frame
of its volunteering agreements do not include any compensation. The possibility to work onsite is reserved for volunteers based in or near Geneva, as ISHR will not cover any travel nor
relocation cost. This opportunity is targeted at people with a good command of the relevant
skills listed above.
