Area of ​​activity

The GIZ Data Lab sees itself as a platform that brings together thinkers and practitioners to promote the effective, fair, and responsible use of digital data and artificial intelligence in international cooperation. Since 2019, the team has been working agilely and with a focus on opportunities, researching new trends and testing future-oriented solutions in GIZ’s partner countries. The team conducts a variety of experiments in the context of AI and Data4Development, which are limited in scope and theme and based on concrete working hypotheses.

Together with a strong network of implementation partners within and outside of GIZ, the Lab develops and tests concrete solutions for international cooperation. Ethical, data protection, and social risks are identified in the process, thus contributing to GIZ’s innovative and future-oriented service portfolio

Your tasks

Intern in the GIZ Data Lab tasks:

  • Support in setting up and implementing various data- and AI-based experiments in the areas of international negotiations, circular economy, gender, etc., with GIZ projects in its partner countries, political actors in Germany, external consultants, and international partners.
  • Supporting the team, especially in terms of content and organizational project management (thematic research on specialist topics, preparation of documents and presentations, knowledge management, target group-oriented communication, etc.)
  • Structured presentation of learning experiences/knowledge for and about AI-based solutions and tools
  • Support with communication and public relations, in terms of content, design, and organization. This includes the further development and maintenance of the website, the creation of blog posts, the creation and design of presentations, and the identification of relevant events.
  • Support in developing and specifying new use cases for AI and data for sustainable development
  • Support in identifying data sources and, if necessary, in preparing primary and secondary data, labeling.
  • Support in establishing new and maintaining existing international partner networks
  • Ad-hoc support on various topics

Your profile

Required criteria:

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Communication Science, Information Management, Economics, Physics, or a (social) scientific discipline
  • Experience in AI, Data4Development, emerging technologies or similar fields, initial experience with language models and in handling (especially processing and analysis) quantitative data.
  • High affinity for digitalization/innovation topics, interest in technological and data-related trends
  • Proven experience in creating content for communication materials, including design.
  • Ability to formulate texts and presentations in a clear, stylistically appropriate manner and tailored to the target audience.
  • Self-initiative, flexibility and the ability to work in a structured and independent manner
  • Excellent English and German skills
  • Excellent knowledge of common MS Office applications

Desirable criteria:

  • Practical work experience in development cooperation

Notes

The GIZ internship is only possible if you are currently enrolled at a university, are participating in a further education program that includes an internship as an integral part of your studies, or if your degree was awarded no more than 6 months prior to the start of the internship. The monthly intern salary is €2,349 (gross).
