Role Overview

Under the general guidance of the Communication Manager (Partnership Support) and working closely with team leads within the Communication for Partnerships team, the Partnership Communications Specialist will focus on communication support for multi-country and global partnerships which include: designing and driving joint communication plans and frameworks; multi-country coordination for communication planning; partnership communication workshop facilitation; development of communication assets and materials; management of reputational risks through communication strategies; and oversight for the rollout and implementation of these communication assets and strategies across markets.  

The home-based Consultany entails close collaboration with National Committees and country offices in mitigating reputational risks, contributes to the prevention of PR crises, and works with internal and external stakeholders to successfully manage response to reputational issues for UNICEF’s private sector financial and non-financial partnerships with business, foundations, high net worth individuals, membership-based and faith-based organizations.

Scope of Work

The Partnership Communication Specialist will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  1. Developing communication packages e.g. press releases, social media assets, key messages, Q&A documents, talking points etc.  for multi-country partnerships, in close collaboration with communication focal points from relevant National Committees, regional and country offices. 
  2. Organizing and facilitating communication workshops/meetings for stakeholders in order to develop partnership communication frameworks and plans.
  3. Managing reputational risks relating to partnerships through communication strategies.
  4. Overseeing the implementation of agreed communication plans and activities across countries, ensuring global, regional, and national office level alignment between UNICEF and partners including coordination across relevant teams and offices as required.
  5. Supporting partnership communication requirements of new high value partners and participating in meetings to facilitate general alignment across workstreams and offices at the global, regional, and national levels.

Work Assignment

The Partnership Communications Specialist will:

  1. Develop communication parameters including opportunities and risk mitigation strategies for global and multi-country partnerships.
  2. Develop global communication frameworks and plans through workshops with partners and relevant stakeholders
  3. Develop communication packages for multi-country and global partnerships
  4. Coordinate implementation of communication plans for global partnerships and facilitate communication workshops for these partnerships.

Required Qualifications 

Education:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree of higher) in Marketing, Communications, Business, Social Sciences, Arts, or related fields
  • A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or higher), in combination with qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five years progressive experience in the following fields: Communications, Public Relations, Account/Client Management, Sales, Marketing, Fundraising, or Advertising is required.
  • Experience working in partnership contexts, including on customer-facing partnerships, is required.
  • At least two years of experience at international level is desirable. Previous regional or country office experience is an asset.
  • Strong project management experience working across cross-functional environments is an asset.
  • Strong experience in working with a diverse group of stakeholders, across cross-cultural markets is an asset.

Language:

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is considered as an asset.

Others:

  • Demonstrated ability to write press releases, develop communication plans and familiarity with social media as a marketing tool are requirements.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision is required.
  • Occasional travel may be required. 
  • Familiarity with UNICEF and its systems and ways of working is an advantage.
  • The successful consultant will work with countries in the Gulf region and Europe and time zones will be taken into consideration.
