International Review of Education – Call for reviewers

The International Review of Education – Journal of Lifelong Learning (IRE) is seeking to expand its roster of reviewers.

Overview

The International Review of Education – Journal of Lifelong Learning (IRE) – one of two UNESCO academic journals – is a peer-reviewed journal of education that publishes research articles on lifelong learning policy and practice. Special consideration is given to papers on adult education, non-formal education and literacy, or on formal education viewed through the lens of lifelong learning.

Founded in 1931, IRE is the longest-running international journal of comparative education in the world. Since 1955, it has been under the aegis of UNESCO. The editorial team is located at the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), in Hamburg, Germany, and its work is supervised by an international editorial board.

IRE publishes empirical, theoretical/conceptual and policy-related articles from a variety of disciplinary orientations related to lifelong learning. IRE invites scholarship from and on all regions, both qualitative and quantitative studies, and in English and French.

The journal relies on the work and commitment of its reviewers who provide essential expertise and feedback to IRE community of scholars. As IRE seeks to expand its pool of reviewers, IRE would like to invite emerging and established scholars who work in the broad area of lifelong learning from a range of disciplinary perspectives to send us their statements of interest.

IRE is particularly interested in reviewers with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Lifelong learning (policy and practice)
  • Adult education
  • Adult and family literacy and post-literacy
  • Learning in non-formal and informal settings
  • Open and distance learning
  • Disadvantaged and vulnerable learners
  • Vocational education and training, workplace learning
  • Human rights
  • Community and popular education
  • Indigenous education and knowledge systems
  • Decolonisation of education
  • Citizenship education
  • Education in conflict and post-conflict settings
  • Education and technology

Given IRE’s strong representation of researchers and scholar-practitioners from the Global South, IRE encourage scholars from diverse geographic regions and underrepresented groups to get involved.

Serving as a reviewer for IRE involves reviewing 2–4 manuscripts per year. IRE would like to hear from scholars who are interested in engaging more closely with the work of the journal and in supporting its contribution to the global community of education scholarship, with the prospect of joining its pool of consulting editors and/or editorial board.
