The African Hydrogen Fellowship is now accepting applications for Research Fellows. This is an opportunity to contribute to Africa’s clean energy transition through research that is grounded, collaborative, and built for impact.

Africa stands at the threshold of an energy revolution, one that has the potential to transform its economies, create millions of jobs, and position the continent as a global leader in sustainable energy. The Africa Hydrogen Fellowship (AHF) is designed to bridge the knowledge gap, equip African youth with specialized hydrogen expertise, and cultivate the next generation of African hydrogen leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs

AHF Objectives and Structure

The AHF is designed to:

  • Develop technical expertise in hydrogen production, storage, and applications.
  • Equip participants with policy knowledge to support hydrogen development across Africa.
  • Foster innovation and entrepreneurship in hydrogen-based solutions.
  • Build a collaborative network of hydrogen professionals, researchers, and industry stakeholders.
  • Promote real-world application of hydrogen technologies through research and project development.

The six-month AHF Fellowship combines online modules, in-person workshops, industry visits, case studies, and mentorship. The curriculum is structured into five key modules, followed by a capstone project where fellows apply their learning to develop hydrogen solutions tailored for Africa’s energy landscape.

The African Hydrogen Fellowship is seeking passionate and driven individuals to join its Research Fellowship programme. This fellowship provides an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research on hydrogen energy, sustainability, and climate solutions in Africa.

Expected Outcomes

By the end of the fellowship, participants will have gained deep knowledge in hydrogen technology, policy, and economics, acquired practical skills in hydrogen project development and feasibility analysis, developed the ability to lead hydrogen projects and initiatives in Africa, built a strong network of hydrogen industry professionals and policymakers, and created hydrogen project proposals ready for investment and implementation.

Gain Deep Expertise in Hydrogen Technologies

Fellows will acquire comprehensive knowledge of hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and end-use applications. This expertise will enable them to contribute effectively to Africa’s clean energy transition and the global hydrogen economy.

Develop Policy Insights

Fellows will gain insights into hydrogen policy frameworks, safety standards, and economic feasibility. They will be equipped to influence national and regional hydrogen strategies, promoting the adoption of hydrogen as a key energy resource in Africa.

Acquire Practical Skills in Hydrogen Projects

Through hands-on projects, mentorship, and networking, fellows will develop the skills needed to design and implement hydrogen projects. They will be empowered to lead hydrogen initiatives and drive sustainable development and economic growth in Africa.

AHF will partner with African energy ministries and regulators to ensure that fellows gain insights into the regulatory frameworks governing hydrogen and renewable energy. These partnerships will provide fellows with a deep understanding of the policy landscape, enabling them to contribute effectively to the development of hydrogen policies and regulations in Africa.

Universities and Research Institutions
