CHINNOVA Launches Call for Proposals on Climate Change and Health
CHINNOVA is pleased to announce the official launch of the Small Grants Call for Proposals on Climate Change and Health under the CHINNOVA Project.
Proposals will be submitted through the Online Grants Management System (OGMS) until deadline.
Overview
The Climate Change and Health Innovation Hub for West and Central Africa (CHINNOVA) has launched its first Call for Proposals to fund interdisciplinary research that addresses urgent climate-related health challenges across the west and central regions of Africa.
Over an 18-month period (2026–2027), CHINNOVA will support 8-10 research and innovation projects focused on strengthening climate-resilient health systems, advancing equity, and generating evidence that can inform both policy and practice.
CHINNOVA is a regional initiative under the Advancing Research for Climate and Health (ARCH) programme, funded by Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). It aims to build a network of researchers developing practical, locally relevant solutions at the intersection of climate and health. This impactful initiative is being implemented by a consortium led by the Association of African Universities, in partnership with the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land use (WASCAL), Institut Pasteur de la Côte d’Ivoire (IPCI), and the University of Omar Bongo (Université Omar Bongo) in Gabon.
About the Call
Proposals are expected to reflect interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral collaboration, integrate gender and equity considerations, and demonstrate strong contextual relevance to the realities of West and Central Africa. They must outline clear pathways to impact, including stakeholder engagement strategies and long-term sustainability, and aim to produce evidence that informs policy, strengthens institutions, and builds climate-resilient health systems.
To support this effort, CHINNOVA will award a total of $700,000 in grant funding. Each selected project will receive up to $70,000 to support the implementation of collaborative research and innovation addressing the health impacts of climate change in the region.
Eligibility Criteria
- Universities and accredited research institutions actively conducting climate-health research
- Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) with a research mandate
- Public or private institutions engaged in health or climate-related research
CHINNOVA also encourages applications from multi-stakeholder research teams that bring together academic institutions, NGOs, civil society organizations, and private sector partners.
Multi-country applications are welcome, provided the project scope is clearly defined and adequately budgeted.

Expression of Interest
Prospective applicants are encouraged to submit a Letter of Interest by 25 October 2025. While not required, this will help in the coordination of reviews and provision of timely support during the application process. Submit your Expression of Interest here
Information Session
To support applicants and address key questions, CHINNOVA will host a virtual information session on 30 October 2025 at 3:00 PM GMT. The session will provide an overview of the call, clarify eligibility and evaluation criteria, present a briefing on the application process, and address frequently asked questions.
This call for proposals represents a vital opportunity to advance locally led, evidence-based solutions at the intersection of climate and health. CHINNOVA therefore invites institutions with aligned vision to respond to this call and collaborate with the project in fostering equitable health systems capable of withstanding the challenges of a changing climate.
