Youth Engagement for the 11th World Water Forum Objective

The goal is to ensure meaningful youth participation for the 11th World Water Forum by  integrating youth in the thematic, regional, and political processes. In addition to their  formal involvement in those processes, youth will also organize their own parallel activities  to sustain momentum and foster cross-sectoral engagement.

Their contributions will feed  into the forum’s broader discussions and outcomes. Recognizing that youth have a unique  identity, drive and energy, the objective of youth engagement at the Forum is to empower  young people as important agents of change in the water community, in line with the  Forum’s main theme of “Action for a Better Tomorrow”. This will be an essential design  principle throughout the preparatory process, the Forum itself and the follow-up period, to  ensure that youth are a major partner in the success of the different aspects of the Forum.

Definitions

For the 11th World Water Forum, “Youth” will be considered as all those individuals  between the ages of 18 and 35 years old that are active on water topics, be it at the global,  regional or national levels. The World Water Forum aims to provide a collective platform for  youth to contribute in a consolidated manner through the diverse organizations that  represent them, both youth-led and youth-serving organizations.

Application and Selection Process

Interested youth organizations shall submit their expressions of interest via Google  Forms by authorized representatives.

Well-established youth organizations shall be considered to join the Riyadh Youth  Committee. Priority will be given to organizations with prior participation in the previous forums and ensuring balanced geographic representation.

Expression of interest will be assessed by the co-hosts and they will mutually agree  on the selection of RWYC members by 15th of February 2026, at the latest. RWYC onboarding meeting to be held by the end of February.  RWYC shall prepare a draft plan for youth engagement in the 2027 World Water Forum & beyond by the end of March. The plan shall be discussed and finalized during the 2nd stakeholder meeting.

Formation of Riyadh Water Youth Committee

The primary objective of organizing the RWYC is to establish a structured representation  of youth across the three key processes of the Forum, in addition to a proposed youth  program, “on groundwork”. That line of action is proposed to ensure that the focus of  participating youth is not just on higher-level thematic, political processes or regional  concerns, but is also grounded in the state-of-the-art youth action around the world and can contribute innovative and impactful examples of youth-led water action as input to the  other processes. In the same spirit as the Forum itself, these processes should be  mutually supportive and produce integrated inputs which break down siloed approaches.
