Overview
The Economic, Social, and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) of the African Union invites African experts and advocacy groups to join the ECOSOCC Working Group on Climate Change in preparation for the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30). This collaborative working group will play a key role in advising the African Union on strategies and policies to address climate change issues in Africa and ensure the continent’s active participation in COP30, scheduled for 10–21 November 2025 in Belém, Brazil.
Objective of the Working Group
The Working Group on Climate Change will facilitate the integration of civil society perspectives into the African Union’s climate change agenda. Members will contribute to the development of policies and advocacy strategies to address environmental, economic, and social impacts of climate change across Africa.
Key Activities
- Develop actionable policy recommendations on climate change mitigation and adaptation.
- Engage in COP30 preparations to ensure African priorities are reflected in discussions.
- Organize webinars, workshops, and events to strengthen civil society engagement.
- Conduct research to support evidence-based advocacy at COP30.
Eligibility Criteria
- African nationals and Afro-descendants with expertise in climate change or related fields.
- Members of African CSOs, NGOs, research institutions, or advocacy groups committed to climate action.
- Proven track record of working on climate change and sustainability in Africa.
