About the African Youth Summit on Biodiversity (AYS)
The 3rd Edition of the African Youth Summit on Biodiversity 2025 (AYSB2025) is organized by the Global Youth Biodiversity Network – Africa (GYBN Africa), in partnership with the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF), the Rwanda Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN -Rwanda), The Niger Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN-Niger) and the IUCN Nature Based Solutions Hub. The Summit is also supported by the Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA)
To ensure meaningful and increased participation of youth in the implementation of the Biodiversity Plan also know as as the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF), the AYSB2025 is aimed at equipping young people in Africa with the necessary knowledge, skills, and tools to actively and meaningfully participate in the implementation of the KMGBF through their National Biodiversity Strategic and Action Plans (NBSAPs) and to engage in policy advocacy for biodiversity conservation.
The summit will bring together over 100 youth aged between 18-35 from across Africa who are interested in or working in biodiversity conservation. Participants will include youth leaders, students, researchers, early career conservationists and Biologists, activists, IPLCs, PWDs and representatives from NGOs, government agencies, and the private sector such as business and Innovation hub.
The African Youth Summit on Biodiversity will take place in a hybrid format from October 20th to 22nd, 2025. Participants are expected to arrive in Kigali on the 19th and depart on the 23rd of October 2025.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be 35 years and Below by October 2025
- Must have a Passport
- Passionate about Biodiversity conservation
