What is this Programme ?

The Programme connects young renewable energy and sustainability professionals from Africa and Europe to collaborate on energy transition projects,promoting mutual learning and cross-regional understanding. The Africa-Europe Joint Transition Programme will pair young professionals in renewable energy and sustainability from Africa and Europe to work together on energy transition projects, fostering mutual learning and collaboration. The objective of the Africa-Europe Joint Transition Programme is to enhance understanding of regional contexts. Participants will gain insights into the unique energy transition challenges and opportunities in Africa and Europe, allowing for a deeper understanding of regional contexts and perspectives, as well as cross-regional approaches towards solutions.

Participants will explore shared and regional challenges, investigate innovative solutions, and build a lasting network of emerging leaders committed to sustainable energy and ongoing collaboration. Participants in the first round will be paired across continents to ensure diverse expertise and perspectives. Each pair will collaborate on a research project—such as a paper or blog article—focused on key energy transition topics in Africa and Europe, including case studies, policy analysis, technology, or community engagement.

How does the programme work?

Apply : Open to youth aged 18–35 from Africa and Europe. No formal experience required — just genuine interest in energy transition and teamwork.
Get paired : You’ll be matched with a participant from the opposite continent to ensure diverse skill sets and perspectives.
Guidance from senior experts : You’ll receive mentorship and expertise from senior experts across both continents, carefully selected for their experience in the energy fields related to your chosen topic. Their support will help elevate your research and deepen your understanding of real-world challenges and solutions.
Research together : Choose your focus — from policy, technology, energy access, gender equity, or finance — and collaborate virtually on a joint research project. The objective is to produce a work that will raise awareness and promote dialogue on energy transition issues among youth in Africa and Europe, fostering a greater understanding of the importance of sustainable energy practices.
Engage & exchange : Participate in webinars, workshops, and interactive sessions to enhance your knowledge and co-develop ideas.
Share your findings : Present your outcomes through publications, webinars, and public events — with support from the YES-Europe Operations Team.
