Are you passionate about transforming agrifood systems? Join a global network shaping initiatives like the Youth Assembly and the Youth Innovation Lab with cutting-edge research and insights. The WFF Young Scientists Group is still accepting applications for its third cohort!

Background

The WFF Young Scientists Group (YSG) was launched in 2022 as the main body providing scientific evidence and technical knowledge to the various initiatives of the World Food Forum (WFF), including, but not limited to, the Youth Assembly, Innovation Lab, and Education Programme. This support culminates in the publication of a biennial report on specific technical issues of particular concern to youth related to agrifood systems transformation. The publication feeds into the various initiatives of the WFF and acts as a technical and informative document for youth and partners of the WFF.

All members of the YSG are expected to adhere to the highest ethical standards in line with the mission, values and objectives of the WFF. These standards include conduct that embodies professional integrity, responsibility and collaboration, both within the YSG and during external engagements. Working under two-year cohorts, the working composition of the YSG aligns with the FAO Four Betters – better production, better nutrition, better environment and better life – and, through that, follow specific Programme Priority Areas (PPA) to direct their work.

Leveraging FAO areas of expertise and engaging with partners and relevant academic networks, the YSG plays a critical role in providing the WFF with the necessary science-based direction and allows for formal scientific opinions related to documents, statements or action-oriented proposals generated by the participating youth.

Selection criteria

Graduated or enrolled in a graduate degree programme at the time of application;
Applicants should be aged between 21 and 35 (as of 2025);
Applicants must specialize in a field relevant to the mission and work of FAO;
Proficiency in English is required. Having conducted research work in English is preferred, but not mandatory;
Applicants should be able to adapt to an international multicultural environment and have good communication skills.
Women and individuals from underrepresented minority groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
