About the Fellowship
The African Group of Negotiators Experts Support (AGNES), in collaboration with Equal Right Organization, invites applications for an Early Career Climate Fellowship position aimed at advancing climate justice and equitable climate finance across Africa. The Fellowship provides a unique opportunity for a passionate and qualified professional to contribute to the continental-level policy processes and support strategic advocacy to shape equitable climate governance frameworks.
Aim of the Fellowship
This Fellowship aims to strengthen targeted advocacy and engagement with key African institutions and regional policy spaces. The Fellow will represent AGNES and Equal Right in strategic engagements, including the African Union (AU), Africa Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) and regional and national meetings and dialogues.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the understanding and integration of Equal Right’s Cap and Share policy model and Universal Basic Income approaches in continental policy agendas.
- Supporting the hosting of policy dialogues and technical convenings.
- Drafting advocacy statements and policy briefs.
- Monitoring and reporting on relevant policy developments related to climate justice and finance across Africa.
Duration and Start of Fellowship
The Fellowship will be held full-time for a period of 6 months and may be renewed subject to performance and availability of funding.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Be an African national based in Nairobi, Kenya
- A bachelor’s degree in climate change, environment and natural resources, economics, finance, social sciences, law or a related field, with at least two (2) years of relevant experience
- Strong understanding of African climate governance and multilateral processes
- Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Creative, innovative and critical thinking are essential to participate in the programme. A master’s degree will be an added advantage.
- Should be highly motivated to work and ready to learn in a multicultural and interdisciplinary environment.
Application Procedure
A complete application package consists of the following three documents:
- A cover letter (maximum 1 page in length) setting out why you think you are best suited for the Fellowship.
- An up-to-date CV (maximum 2 pages in length);
- Copies of all academic transcripts/degree certificates to date and any other testimonials.
