Overview
The role of young people is essential in shaping sustainable food systems and ensuring a food secure world without poverty. Irelands national agri-food strategy, Food Vision 2030 sets out the ambition for Ireland to be a leader in Sustainable Food Systems including the vital contribution of young people. The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) will fund an Irish Youth Delegation to participate at the World Food Forum from 14th – 18th October 2024 at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome, Italy.
The purpose of the Irish Youth Delegation to World Food Forum will be to provide an opportunity for engagement, learning and networking at the flagship World Food Forum event and recognise the leadership of young people throughout the agri-food sector in Ireland. The selection of Ireland’s youth delegation to the World Food Forum will be coordinated by the National Youth Food Forum and Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.
The World Food Forum will bring together world experts, impassioned changemakers and visionary leaders of all ages around the theme: “Good food for all, for today and tomorrow”.The National Youth Food Forum was launched in March 2024 and is Ireland’s national chapter of the World Food Forum. The Forum aims to build on the existing momentum to better co-ordinate and leverage domestic and international opportunities for young people to engage on food systems. It is a youth led initiative and provides a platform to network and collaborate on sustainable food systems and engage with policy platforms such as the World Food Forum, and other domestic and international initiatives.
Eligibility
- Between the ages of 18 – 35 years (on 25th August 2024
- Actively engaged within food systems in Ireland, including agriculture and fisheries, nutrition and diet, business and enterprise, science, research, and policy advocacy.
Demonstrate leadership potential within the agri-food sector, and food system, including communication, collaboration and advocacy.
Able to travel/participate at World Food Forum in Rome (October 2024) - Passionate about achieving sustainable food systems and working to engage young people in this important agenda.
