Overview
From July 07 – July 09, IOM will deliver a training on Climate Mobility, with support from UNESCAP and OHCHR. Please note that travel and accommodation will be fully sponsored for selected participants.
Background & Introduction
The Pacific Climate Change Migration and Human Security Programme (PCCMHS) Phase II programme, contributes to strengthened resilience and adaptive capacity of Pacific Islanders in the context of climate change and disasters, ensuring that migration and relocation remains a choice, and displacement is averted, minimized and addressed.
The PCCMHS programme will support the following outcomes: 1) Governments cooperate at the (Pacific) regional and sub-regional level to manage climate mobility; 2) Pacific Governments develop and implement national policies to address climate mobility and 3) Pacific civil society actors, worker and employer organizations, and communities actively engage in national, regional and global processes to manage climate mobility.
The PCCMHS programme is being delivered through a partnership, with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) as the lead agency, alongside UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), along with the Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD) and Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS).
Under the PCCMHS programme, the IOM has supported the development of a Pacific Climate Mobility Training Package (inclusive of detailed Facilitator Guide). This Pacific Climate Mobility Training Package will be used for regional trainings scheduled in 2025 aimed at IOM staff, government officials, civil society, and community leaders. The trainings will serve as a key too enhancing understanding and management of climate mobility drawing on and amplifying the Pacific Regional Framework on Climate Mobility.
Pacific Climate Mobility Training Package
Prior to the regional implementation of trainings, the package’s designed modules and interactive activities were pilot tested during a three-day training session in December 2024 and also validated during a two-day Validation workshop with stakeholders in February 2025.
The training adopts a practical, participatory approach, emphasizing interactive activities, role-playing, and scenario-based exercises to enable participants to apply concepts in realistic settings. The focus during the training will be on practicing delivery, refining modules, and ensuring the activities are engaging, effective, and culturally relevant.
