Call for Applications for the Virtual Clean Economy Bridge Research Program
About the Program
The Clean Economy Bridge Research program will bring together 12-15 emerging youth leaders (ages 18-30) from Canada, the United States, and Germany to conduct collaborative research on transatlantic cooperation for a clean economy, as part of The Clean Economy Bridge initiative and in cooperation with adelphi.
The program will run virtually from July to December 2025, with the opportunity for projects to be featured at the Clean Economy Bridge Conference in the Fall of 2025.

Program Focus Areas
The Clean Economy Bridge Research Program invites youth to explore the future of transatlantic cooperation in clean energy. While participants will have the flexibility to choose their own research direction, this year’s program will place particular emphasis on the following key themes:
- Clean Energy Technologies and Grid Innovation – including the role of AI in optimizing renewable energy systems
- Energy and Agriculture – exploring agrivoltaics, energy access in rural areas, and sustainable farming technologies
- Sustainable Workforce Development and climate policy cooperation between Canada, the U.S., and Germany
- Energy Efficiency and Demand-Side Management – exploring strategies to optimize energy use
- Climate and Resource Security – addressing migration, food security, and other climate risks in a transatlantic context
Schedule
Total time commitment: ~100 hours between July – December 2025 (5 hours/week)
July – August: Learning Phase
- Virtual kick-off session
- Virtual learning units & expert-led workshops
- Research ideation & planning
August – November: Research Phase
- Conduct collaborative research in teams
- Receive custom mentorship
November-December: Wrap-up & Final Outputs
- Finalize research output
- Present findings
- Participate in program reflection
Eligibility
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Be 18–30 years old as of June 2025
- Be fluent in English, as the program will be delivered in English
- Be able to commit ~5 hours per week between June and October 2025.
- Have reliable access to a computer and an internet connection to participate in virtual sessions
- Demonstrate a personal or professional connection to one or more of the program’s focus countries: Canada, the United States, or Germany This may include citizenship, residence, education, work experience, or demonstrated interest in energy and climate issues related to these countries, particularly in a transatlantic context. You do not need to currently reside in and/or hold citizenship from one of these countries to apply
- Have a strong interest or background in climate, energy, international cooperation, or related fields While prior expertise is not required, SE is looking for applicants who can demonstrate relevant experience or a clear passion for these areas. Particular consideration will be given to those with interest or experience in the program’s thematic priorities, such as clean energy technologies, AI applications for energy systems, and sustainable agriculture
Tips for a Successful Application
- Highlight your lived experiences. Lived experience refers to the knowledge and understanding you gain from your own life journey and the situations you’ve personally encountered.
- Write your own application. The application form is intended to get to know YOU and your unique motivations for applying. Avoid using AI-generated content; it can feel generic and will not capture your individuality.
- Focus on your dedication to the program. Clearly articulate your enthusiasm for sustainable energy and your willingness to invest time and effort in the program.
- Take your time. There’s no benefit to submitting your application early. Focus on crafting a strong application that showcases your best self. Remember that you can only submit one application.
