Overview
The Mundus Journalism master’s degree offers a curriculum that is uniquely focused on developing an analytical and critical lens on journalism, media and globalisation. Since 2005, Mundus Journalism has been connecting people and building networks of like-minded peers and colleagues across the globe.
Mundus Journalism has secured new Erasmus Mundus funding for the next five years, taking its successful programme to the next level with resilience at the core and with around 10-15 Erasmus Mundus scholarships per intake.
Please note: The Erasmus Mundus Scholarships are part of the EU-funded programme, and are in the process of finalising the Grant Agreement with the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA).
About the Mundus Journalism Programme
Since its inception in 2005, the Erasmus Mundus Journalism Consortium has sought to advance research on global aspects of journalism, set new standards for European education and create new job qualifications for students on the global market.
The academic excellence, breadth of research and global representativeness of the Mundus Journalism programme are ensured by the quality of the degree-awarding partners, and by the systematic selection of new credit-awarding and associated partners. Its strength lies in the collective willingness and joint commitment to combine and develop research, teaching and industry relations to prepare graduates for contemporary and future challenges within the evolving landscape of journalism. So farthe programme has a track record of nearly 1500 successful alumni.
The programme is part of the wider Erasmus Mundus Master’s initiative of the European Union. It was developed as a response to a growing need for journalism candidates who think and act across boundaries of nations, cultures and knowledge.
Renewed Erasmus Mundus funding powers Mundus Journalism’s resilience-focused next chapter
This funding has never been more important. Across the world, journalists face overlapping pressures – conflict and disasters, mis/disinformation accelerated by AI, polarization, climate-driven crises, increased precarity, and threats to press freedom and safety. This funding enables the consortium to prepare its graduates to report with accuracy, courage, and care.
Building on nearly 20-years of success, the updated programme includes:
- Alongside established specialisations focused on Politics & Communication, Totalitarianism & Transition, Cultures & Contexts, we have added a new Crisis & Conflict specialisation that deepens analytical and practical skills in high-risk, high-complexity reporting.
- A dedicated Resilience Committee to strengthen student wellbeing, mentoring, and pedagogical support throughout the two-year joint degree journey.
Delivered across Aarhus University (coordinator), University of Amsterdam, LMU Munich, City St George’s University of London, and Charles University, the consortium and its master’s degree programme connects students with five vibrant media ecosystems and an active global alumni community.
Mundus Journalism offers:
- A two-year transnational master’s degree profiled and supported by the European Commission
- Erasmus Mundus Journalism Scholarships to selected students
- Erasmus+ stipends to students who do not receive and Erasmus Mundus scholarship
- A free health care and civil liability insurance throughout the 2-year programme
- Working visas in two contries after graduation
- State-of-the-art insights into journalism, media and globalisation
- Distinct global journalism specialisations in year 2 and second semester exchange to one of our prestigious credit awarding universities
