Call for Applications: DCU Sanctuary Scholarships for 2024/25 Academic Year in Ireland

Dublin City University (DCU), Ireland’s first formally designated University of Sanctuary, has announced the continuation of the University of Sanctuary scholarship programme for 2024/25.

Five postgraduate taught part-time or full-time Master’s scholarships will be available for the next academic year for refugees and international protection applicants who are not eligible for state support. This brings to 55 the total number of DCU Sanctuary Scholarships awarded to date. For entry in September 2024, Dublin City University (DCU) is offering five postgraduate scholarships.

DCU Sanctuary Scholarships are open to:

  • International Protection Applicants
  • Applicants with refugee status or Permission to Remain who are not eligible for state support, i.e. Free Fees Initiative or Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI) grant.

Note: Individuals at deportation order stage are not eligible to apply.

Scholarship eligibility criteria

Applicants must be:

  1. Registered with the Department of Justice.
  2. Accepted on a DCU full-time or part-time taught masters postgraduate course.

Application process

  1. Applicants must be offered a place on a DCU master’s programme. Apply online for a postgraduate programme using one of the DCU Student Application Portals. The entry requirements for all programmes can be found on each of the course web pages.
  2. Applicants who meet the criteria for a University of Sanctuary scholarship can request a fee waiver for the course application fee.
  3. Applicants must make a separate application for a DCU University of Sanctuary scholarship. Complete the online form on the DCU University of Sanctuary web page.
  4. Shortlisted applicants will be requested to supply official written evidence of their legal status.

Assessment process

  1. An assessment committee will assess applications.
  2. Preference will be given to applicants who do not have a previous postgraduate qualification.
  3. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of the assessment process by Wednesday, the 7th of August, 2024.
