Overview
DAAD Research grants are for young scientists and academics wishing to improve their academic qualifications with a doctoral degree in Germany. The DAAD Research grants are also for doctoral candidates and young scientists and academics whose doctoral degrees are supervised both by a university teacher at the home university and an academic adviser at the host institute in Germany.

- Doctoral Programmes in Germany: Funding for a doctoral project at a state or state-recognised institution of higher education or a non-university research institute in Germany
- Bi-nationally Supervised Doctoral Degrees / Cotutelle: Bi-national doctoral degree at your home university and at a university in Germany
The DAAD German Academic Exchange Service is the world’s largest funding organisation for the international exchange of students and researchers.
Value
- monthly scholarship payments of 1.300 euros
- payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover (see also important information for scholarship applicants )
- travel allowance
- for a funding period of more than six months: research allowance of 460 euros
Under certain circumstances, you can apply for the following additional benefits after start of funding:
- Green Mobility Top Up (subsidy for climate-friendly travel) or reimbursement of carbon offset payments for air travel
monthly rent subsidy, only for a funding period of more than six months (see important information for scholarship applicants) - monthly allowance for accompanying members of family, only for a funding period of more than six months; please also read the important information for scholarship applicants
- In case of a disability or chronic illness: on application, a subsidy may be provided for justified additional costs, incurred in Germany due to the disability, that are necessary to realise the project in Germany and that are not covered by a third party; whether and to what extent a subsidy will be paid, will be reviewed and determined on an individual basis important information for scholarship applicants
