Call for Applications: 2025 CMI Global Fellowship for Early Career Researchers Fully Funded to Norway
The Chr. Michelsen Institute in Bergen, Norway, invites interested candidates to apply for a CMI Global Fellowship (a three-month fellowship with an attached stipend). CMI has two funded visiting fellowships, each for a duration of 3 months. These are temporary, full-time, three-month fellowships. This call is for the year of 2025. The three-month fellowships must take place during the period of 15th January–15th June 2025. The fellowships are contingent on presence in Bergen throughout the 3-month period.
Fellows will be provided with a Research Mentor at CMI and will be affiliated with one of its’ research groups, where they can take part in regular meetings and present ongoing research. CMI’s working language is English. However, research and publications developed during the fellowship period can be done in any language.

Purpose of the CMI Global Fellowships
The purpose of the fellowship is to provide space for scholars from non- OECD countries to further develop their academic publications and to support mutual exchanges and collaborations with CMI researchers. The fellowships have been established as part of CMI’s commitments to Equal Knowledge Production and to address the injustices inherent in current global research practices.
Fellowship Requirements
Experience and qualifications:
- Applicants must have a master’s degree.
- Be scholars working in one of the following disciplines: history, law, anthropology, economics, sociology, geography, political science or area studies.
- Applicants must be employed or enrolled in a study programme in their country of residence during the fellowship.
- The applicants must be a citizen of a non-OECD country, with preference given to those currently residing outside of OECD countries.
- The applicants must have a degree or relevant experience in a research thematic areas CMI engages with. These are: conflict, environment, climate and natural resources, democracy and governance, humanitarianism, corruption, gender, rights, global health, and poverty.
