Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in  Partnership with the African Union?

EU offers:

A Funded traineeship for young graduates at the EU Delegation to African Union of up to 6 months in 2026 within the Political, Press and Information (PPI) Section. The tentative start date is 1st May  2026.

Main tasks: 

a) Preparatory work for the follow-up of the 2025 EU-AU Ministerial Conference and subsequent Summit and other related events and initiatives.

  • Contribute to the communication and visibility work of the EU Delegation: a) drafting press releases, project fiches and other communication documents; b) contributing to the organisation of events; c) supporting in any other strategic communication tasks.
  • Undertake research on some specific Political/Cooperation issues and make summaries of key papers and of meetings.

b) Attending meetings and preparing minutes of those;

c) Draft, edit and produce short videos, social media cards, factsheets, speeches, project fiches & other relevant materials and contributing to the organisation of events

d) Support in coordinating the Team Europe Communication Community and the Delegation’s Communication cluster, updating collaborative spaces, ensuring meetings’ minutes, assisting with an effective follow up and tracking of actions

e) Organization of and participation in internal and external events, prepare respective reports

f) Contributing to the preparation of internal documents, statements, speeches, reports and information collection. Particular focus will be on mobility and migration, youth, economic integration, G20 and multilateral relations.

g) Support as needed the Policy and Cooperation Section on dedicated files notably in view of the follow-up of the 2025 Ministerial conference and subsequent Summit

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Taking into account the local health and security conditions, applicants currently residing in Ethiopia will only be considered 
  • Master’s degree in political science, international relations, economics, law or other social studies
  • Candidates must have less than one year of professional experience after graduation by the signing date of the traineeship agreement (other traineeships or student jobs or volunteering works carried out during university or after graduation are not considered as professional experience).
  • Fluency in English
  • Excellent analytical, drafting and communication skills 
  • Excellent capacity in editing and producing Audiovisual, social media and communication products and in using Canva or other edition and designing platforms 
  • Excellent analytical and drafting skills, a keen understanding of and interest in African Union’s politics, economics and governance
  • A hands-on, pro-active, reliable attitude, an openness to learning, and willingness to contribute with ideas.

Important information to read before applying

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship).

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee. 

Applications for the funded traineeship for young graduates at the EU Delegation to African Union from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.
