Apply for the PhD Student Position in Urban Climate at National University of Singapore
Background
The Urban Climate Design Laboratory at the Department of Architecture, National University of Singapore consists a group of vibrant researchers who are at the forefront of research in urban climate sustainability and resilience.
Under the influence of climate change and urbanisation, improving sustainability and resilience of cities is an urgent priority. High-density urban living is an inevitable trend in adapting to rapid urbanisation and climate change. Yet, such high-density nature could pose negative impacts on urban living, such as poor air quality and thermal comfort. Long-term negative impacts increase both intensity and frequency of short-term disruptions. In view of the complex relationship and interactions between urban environments, multi-scale-physics urban climate understandings, modelling methods and design solutions are emphasized, to prepare high density cities to the future climate challenges.
PhD Student Position in Urban Climate Overview
Urban Climate Design Lab interdisciplinary team is dedicated to understand and address the complex interactions between urban environments and climate change through advanced computational, measurement and analytical methods, and thus have its own large datasets for urban climate. Urban Climate Design Lab is now seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join its research team, to integrate urban climate physical modeling with machine learning algorithms to predict and mitigate the impacts of climate change on urban areas. The suitable candidate is expected to conduct the research focusing on developing and implementing Physics-Informed machine learning models.
Eligibility
The qualified candidate is expected to have:
(1) a Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., Environmental Science, Computer Science, Data Science, and/or a related discipline),
(2) background and knowledge in machine learning,
(3) proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB and
(4) experience with / interest in climate modeling and urban climate data.
Urban Climate Design Lab offer a dynamic and supportive research environment, access to world-class state-of-the-art computational resources and potential for collaboration with leading experts and institutions. Supervisor: Chao Yuan (https://lnkd.in/gyUvc2AN)
