The Role
To strengthen its small and dynamic communications team, EAT is seeking a highly skilled Senior Communications Officer. This role demands an independent, proactive professional capable of engaging with all levels of EAT organization and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a dynamic and driven communications generalist, comfortable in a fast-paced environment, and passionate about our mission.
As Senior Communications Officer, you will be pivotal in creating engaging, innovative, and impactful materials that resonate with key audiences. You should have extensive experience working with global media, and a proven ability to distill complex issues into clear, compelling narratives. This role is highly collaborative, requiring close work with the Chief Communications Officer and external partners to ensure that EAT’s voice is heard in the ongoing global conversation on food system transformation.
Key Responsibilities
- Amplify EAT message: play a crucial role in promoting EAT’s science-based, optimistic narrative for change through diverse communication channels.
- Content creation: draft key communication materials, including messages, newsletters, media kits, and proposals, tailored to specific audiences.
- Product delivery: assist in the creation and distribution of major annual communications products, publications, and social media/digital content, collaborating with a variety of external specialists.
- Relationship management: build and maintain effective working relationships with global partners and media outlets across different regions.
- Campaign coordination: support and coordinate the implementation of campaign opportunities, manage international media relations, prepare talking points and presentations, and contribute to speechwriting efforts.
- Visual content (asset): experience in supporting the creation of visually compelling digital and print designs is a plus.
- Support leadership: provide communication support to the Chief Communications Officer as needed.
Candidate Profile
- Passionate communicator: a proven ability to craft science-based narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
- Simplifying complexity: demonstrated success in translating complex scientific information into engaging and accessible content.
- Experience: a minimum of five years of relevant experience in a major international organization, scientific institution, public relations agency, or similar setting.
- Writing skills: exceptional editorial and writing abilities in English.
- Technical proficiency: familiarity with content management systems (WordPress preferred) and social media management systems; intermediate knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Figma, and Microsoft Office is an asset.
- Strategic thinker: ability to think strategically and identify ways to enhance communication efforts.
- Team player: strong organizational, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Language skills: excellent oral and written English; additional languages are a plus.
- Problem-solver: creative, organized, and capable of overcoming challenges effectively.
