About the Fellowship

The SAGFA Fellowship is a pioneering initiative under the Sino-Africa Green Finance Alliance (SAGFA), led by the Africa-China Centre for Policy and Advisory (ACCPA) with support from the African Climate Foundation (ACF). This fellowship is designed to build the next generation of African leaders in green finance empowering policymakers, researchers, and industry professionals with the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to drive climate-resilient industrial development across the continent.

The Fellowship is a 6-week virtual training program designed to build the capacity of emerging leaders in green finance, climate policy, and Africa–China cooperation. It is hosted by the Africa-China Centre for Policy and Advisory (ACCPA) and supported by the African Climate Foundation (ACF).

The Fellowship will be delivered entirely online, providing a flexible and accessible platform for participants across Africa. Future editions of the fellowship aim to incorporate in-person residencies and industrial immersions, subject to sustainable funding.

Fellowship Objectives

  • To enhance technical knowledge in green finance policy, instruments, and implementation strategies relevant to Africa’s development context.
  • To equip African professionals with practical tools for designing and influencing green finance policies, programs, and partnerships.
  • To foster collaboration and learning between African and Chinese stakeholders through structured dialogues and case-based engagements.
  • To amplify advocacy and innovation in sustainable industrialization, ensuring long-term climate resilience and green growth.

Who Should Participate

The Fellowship targets mid- to senior-level professionals from across Africa who are passionate about climate finance and sustainable development, particularly:

  • Government policymakers
  • Researchers and think tank professionals
  • Development practitioners and advisors
  • Private sector actors in manufacturing, energy, finance, and agro processing
  • Financial regulators and institutional investors
  • Climate and finance practitioners
  • Journalists and civil society actors
  • Graduate students with a strong interest in climate change, finance, or Africa–China
    relations

Applicants must be based in Africa or work on Africa-related issues. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to applying the fellowship experience to their ongoing work and institutional mandates. The Fellowship is fully funded and free of charge to all selected participants.

Applications must be submitted online via the official SAGFA Fellowship 2025 portal by the deadline. Late applications will not be considered.

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed by a panel of experts. Selection is based on:

  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience in climate, finance, or Africa–China issues
  • Quality of application responses
  • Geographic and sectoral diversity

There will be weekly live sessions, expert lectures, and assignments. Participants should expect to commit approximately 3–4 hours per week throughout the 6-week program.
