Applications are now open for the Fully Funded Global South Fellowship Program at the University of Birmingham in UK (£1500 monthly stipend)
Overview
The Global South Fellowship Program aims to support the professional development of early-career researchers from universities in the Global South. The University of Birmingham has launched the Global South Fellowship Programme, offering a three-month, fully funded research opportunity for early-career scholars from the Global South.
This initiative provides selected fellows with financial support, including a monthly stipend, to undertake a short-term research visit. It is designed to facilitate the development of research, strengthen institutional collaborations, and enable engagement with diverse academic environments.
The programme reflects a growing recognition of the importance of inclusive and equitable partnerships in addressing global challenges, particularly in areas such as education, global health, etc.
Aims of the Scheme
The aim of the Global South Visiting Fellows scheme is to enable visiting fellows to gain insight into the organisation and conduct of research, training, and administration at the University of Birmingham and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Additionally, it promotes research collaboration, partnership development, and further collaboration with the Global South. University of Birmingham welcomes applications in subject areas related to education access and equity, global health, and sustainability and climate action. However, there is some flexibility around this.
Funding and accommodation
The scheme will provide each visiting fellow with travel expenses of up to £850 and a monthly stipend of £1500 for up to three months to help cover living expenses and accommodation. On campus accommodation can be booked on fellows’ behalf and the cost deducted from the stipend, however there is no guarantee that University accommodation will be available during the fellowship. Further information on private accommodation options and support with organising accommodation is available upon request.
