Innovative climate adaptation solutions can’t wait – and now is the time to scale them across Latin America & the Caribbean.
The United Nations Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN) has launched a new Call for Proposals under the Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA), supporting transformative and locally led climate adaptation innovations in the region.
Up to 40 projects will be selected, with each receiving up to USD 150,000 in technical assistance support to pilot innovative adaptation solutions that strengthen resilience and drive sustainable impact.
To apply, organizations based in eligible developing countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, including governmental institutions, universities, research centres, NGOs, and private-sector entities, from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are eligible.
The programme seeks projects that demonstrate:

✔️ Strong local impact and institutional strengthening
What is AFCIA?
The Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA) provides funding and technical assistance to innovative solutions for adapting to climate change. From the mountains of Nepal to the forests of Georgia, AFCIA brings climate adaptation solutions to life and helps successful projects to scale up, including by attracting private investment.
UN CTCN is currently looking for high-quality applications from projects that can demonstrate excellence in innovation and sustainability. UN CTCN manages one of five different AFCIA programmes.
Objectives
The AFCIA programme aims to test, scale up, and secure financing for innovative adaptation technologies, especially those that are transformative and locally led. The AFCIA programme focus its support on developing countries, with special attention to Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States.
Through AFCIA UN CTCN helps to address the main barriers to developing and transferring solutions, which include: i) financial constraints; ii) inadequate policies and regulations; and iii) limited organisational capacity.
The maximum grant sizes are USD 250,000. UN CTCN do not transfer funds directly. Instead, provide support through technical assistance, which ensures that the programme’s focus remain on capacity building, knowledge sharing, and leveraging expertise and resources to maximise impact.
Call for Applications: Climate Adaptation Innovation in Latin America and the Caribbean
The Climate Technology Centre and Network (UN CTCN) has today launched a new call for proposals under the Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA), seeking innovative climate adaptation solutions from across Latin America and the Caribbean. The call for proposals will be open until 18 August 2026. Projects in Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States will be prioritised.
Through the AFCIA programme, UN CTCN provides technical assistance to organisations developing innovative approaches to climate adaptation. The programme focuses on supporting transformative and locally led solutions solutions.Up to 40 projects will be selected through the new regional call. Each project can receive up to USD 150,000 in technical assistance support for piloting innovative climate adaptation solutions.
Rather than transferring grants directly, UN CTCN’s programme provides technical assistance support designed to strengthen institutional capacity, facilitate knowledge sharing, and connect projects with specialised expertise and resources.
Who Can Apply?
Applications are open to entities based in developing countries that have officially nominated a National Designated Entity (NDE) to the UNFCCC Technology Mechanism. This includes governmental institutions, universities, research centres, NGOs, private-sector entities, and other organizations.
