Applications are open for the 49th Edition of RES4Africa Academy Technical and Vocational School!

This training is designed to empower Africa’s workforce by equipping participants with the practical skills, technical knowledge, and entrepreneurial tools needed to thrive in the renewable energy sector.

Whether you are a technician, operator, university student, young entrepreneur, or professional already active in the energy field, this is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and expand your professional network.

Training fees apply, but limited scholarships are available.

Overview

RES4Africa Foundation is launching the call for application of the Technical and Vocational School, an initiative sustained by Enel Foundation and developed in collaboration with Strathmore University, which is responsible for part of the training. The training sessions will be held in person from the 20th to the 24th of April 2026.

This edition will focus on  Module #4 – Economics and regulatory frameworks, and aims to provide students with a comprehensive overview of a wide set of technical, economic and regulatory topics, such as: procurement and construction (EPC), PV systems installation and testing (BOS), construction and contract management, mini-grid economics including markets, cost structures and tariffs, business models for mini-grids/micro-grids, project financing and financial modelling, environmental and social project financing requirements, as well as energy policy, legal and regulatory frameworks with a country focus on Kenya.

The target beneficiaries will comprise up to 25 participants, among students, technicians, operators, managers, entrepreneurs and other RE professionals from all African States. Applicants under 30 and women of any age are particularly encouraged to apply.

The course will be held physically at Strathmore Energy Research Centre (SERC) in Nairobi, Kenya, with possible field visits and additional practical training at other partners’ facilities also in Nairobi.

Methodology

The methodology foreseen for this course will be in-class training in Nairobi, Kenya. More specifically:

  • Lessons will be delivered in-person at Strathmore University and/or at other partners’ locations in Nairobi communicated ahead of the start of the training;
  • Lecturers will come from Strathmore University and other programme’s local (Kenyan) and regional partners, as well as RES4Africa’s members and partners from private-public high-level entities operating in the energy sector;
  • At the end of the training, students will take a final survey and a final exam to assess the newly acquired skills and knowledge.

Certificate

Upon successful completion of the training, a certificate of attendance will be granted to the trainees who have attended at least 70% of the total amount of training hours and successfully completed the final exam and survey.

Application Process

To register, applicants are required to fill out the application form, upload their CV and letter of motivation in PDF format, and send a notification email to [email protected] or [email protected].

Endorsement by an employer or a supervisor will be considered a plus, with the reference letter to be uploaded into the Application form. Incomplete applications or applications received after the deadline
will not be considered. Applications will be evaluated by RES4Africa and Strathmore University. The selected candidates will receive a confirmation email and will be requested to confirm their attendance by proceeding with fee payment.

For this course, RES4Africa Foundation, thanks to the support of Enel Foundation, will grant 20 partial scholarships to early applicants according to their profile, academic and professional background, and motivation.
