Overview

University of Edinburgh offer up to 20 postgraduate scholarships for displaced people already based in the UK. Successful applicants will receive partial or full funding and stipends to support full time and on-campus study at the University of Edinburgh.

Scholarship details

Applications for the 2026/2027 Education Beyond Borders Postgraduate Scholarship are now open.

In addition to funding, the Education Beyond Borders team supports scholars with academic, professional and personal development throughout their studies, offering:

  • one-to-one wellbeing support
  • information sessions
  • academic guidance
  • social events.

Students also benefit from the connections across the University and the city of Edinburgh. This network provides access to peer support, initiatives to overcome linguistic and academic barriers, and resources to support the transition into employment. The Education Beyond Borders Postgraduate Scholarship is therefore designed for students who will actively engage with and benefit from this enhanced support.

The application process

Please ensure you have read through all the information before proceeding with an application for the scholarship.

Before applying, please ensure you have completed the pre-application checklist:

  1. Check your eligibility to apply
  2. Check which degree courses you can apply for with the scholarship
  3. Ensure you understand how the funding will work
  4. Read the terms and conditions
  5. Attend the scholarship information session
  6. Check costs and make a budget

In the application form, you will be asked to answer short essay questions about assessment criteria.  

These include questions on:

  • academic merit and potential
  • demonstrated interest in your chosen field of study
  • commitment to future impact and giving back to your community.

Your responses will be reviewed by the scholarshipselection panel. 

You must apply to the University of Edinburgh for your chosen postgraduate programme. You can only apply to courses that are: 

  • Postgraduate/Masters level of study 
  • one year in duration 
  • taught in-person, on campus 

When you have submitted your application to the University of Edinburgh please let them know using the follow up form. You can only progress to the next stage of the scholarship application if you have been offered a place on an eligible course at the University of Edinburgh.

February to March 2025 Unsuccessful applicants (including those who do not meet the eligibility criteria) will receive a rejection notice. 
3 March 20255pm GMTApplicants must have completed their application to their chosen degree programme by 5pm in order to be considered for the scholarship. 
April 2026 Applicants receive a decision on their scholarship application. 
May 2026 Successful scholarship applicants will take a language test to prove they meet the English language requirement.

Admission to the scholarship is conditional on meeting the University’s English language requirements. 

Key information

  • You must make an application for the scholarship and for your postgraduate degree course at the University. These are two separate application processes using different application forms.
  • You do not have to apply for admission to your chosen degree course before you apply for the scholarship, but University of Edinburgh recommend you do (or soon after).
  • Postgraduate degree courses have varied admissions deadlines, so please ensure you check these early to avoid disappointment.
  • You must only submit one application to the scholarship programme.
