Closing Date: 19 May 2025

Applications are now open for the 2025 Women In Energy Fellowship at the Center on Global Energy Policy.

Overview

While women make up a third of entry-level energy professionals, only 19% make it to executive leadership. This fellowship was created to change that. Running from June 25 to August 20, this in-person, evening program is designed to equip early-career professionals with the tools they need to grow into leadership roles.

Fellows will:

  • Learn from Columbia University’s experts on energy and climate solutions
  • Build career-advancing skills like public speaking, conflict resolution, and management
  • Develop a supportive network of peers and mentors in the energy space

Women in Energy Fellowship Cohort 2

A third of all entry-level professionals in energy are women but by the time they reach the executive level, that number shrinks to 19%. Many women either never make it to the C-suite or leave the industry altogether. This Fellowship aims to support early-career professionals to remain in the energy sector and provide participants with the skills, knowledge, and network to grow in their careers to ultimately become an energy leader.

The Center on Global Energy Policy (CGEP) is a global leader in advancing evidence-based and actionable energy and climate solutions. Located at Columbia University, CGEP also has the expertise to enable professional women in the workforce to tackle the energy transition and advance their careers.

The Women in Energy Fellowship will have three components:

  • Build Knowledge: participants will learn the latest in evidence-based energy and climate solutions from the Center’s research scholars.
  • Upskill: hone the skills that will help women advance their careers including but not limited to public speaking, conflict resolution, and management.
  • Develop a network: create and support a network of people working in energy space.

The Fellowship will host in-person biweekly sessions from June 25th until August 20th (June 25th, July 9th, July 23rd, August 6th, August 20th) from 5:30  – 9pm (17.5 hours total). All fellows will be required to attend all sessions.

Who is ideal for the Fellowship?

Fellows are early-career energy employees who have been in the industry for 3 to 8 years. An ideal fellow intends to stay in the energy sector and ultimately attain a leadership position. Currently, the Fellowship is designed for individuals who can attend events and meetings in person at our New York City offices independently. Women in Energy envisions a world with equal gender representation at every level within the energy sector. Everyone is welcome to participate in WIE, irrespective of sex, as our programming seeks to advance that vision.

Why a Fellowship?

A third of all entry-level energy professionals are women, but that portion shrinks to 19% at the executive level. Many women never make it to the C-suite or leave the industry altogether. This Fellowship aims to support women’s continued involvement in the energy sector and provide participants with the skills, information, and network they need to grow in their careers and ultimately become energy sector leaders.

What are the components of the Fellowship?

  • Build knowledge: participants will learn the latest in evidence-based energy and climate solutions from the Center’s research scholars.
  • Upskill: hone the soft skills that will help women advance their careers, including but not limited to public speaking, negotiation, and management.
  • Develop a network: create and support a network of women working in the energy space.
